The music program open to all 4th to 6th graders is very well run; the teachers work amazingly well with the kids and the winter and spring recitals are always such a treat. My child learned Scratch Programming during the CSTEM lesson (half an hour a week) too.
The writing program is strong. The kids use Khan Academy in the classroom and at home on top of lectures in the classroom. My daughter likes the Math program and was appropriately placed in one of their 3 lanes, starting from 4th grade. The teachers are responsive to parents' concern and emails promptly regarding concerns.
The reviewer below who states this school has "all the special education students" is mistaken. There are special ed classrooms at Covington and Loyola as well. Additionally, there are special education students who are mainstreamed at EVERY school in Los Altos. Our experience at Springer has been outstanding. Wonderful teachers, great principal, caring parents and a rich variety of after school programs.
Springer sadly stays the same - that is not always a good thing. Even with a new principal things haven't improved. In any private industry, poor performing employees would be let go. Not so at Springer or any Los Altos school. You have some exceptional teachers, and a handful of very poor teachers that really couldn't care less, and yet they still are teaching our children. This school has all the special education students, so the scores are significantly lower than the rest of the district.
This school is excellent in so many ways. The teachers are superb, and so is the Principal and staff. The curriculum is demanding and results are achieved.
Springer has excellent teachers (every one). Every year we ask if we can keep the teachers until the kids graduate...but of course that's impossible! The parents are avid volunteers, are kind, conscientious and giving, and support their children in every way. The students treat each other with kindness and respect- there is little to no bullying. We love Springer- we'd never leave it!
Springer is not just an educational institution providing kids with rich academic experience, it is loving community filled with caring members who support the faculty and staff's best efforts toward their kids and do their best to buffer the budget cuts of recent years by volunteering and giving of themselves so that the school experience stays at a high quality level.
Our daughter is in first grade and we couldn't be happier with the school, including her teacher (Ms. DeMonet), school administration, after school events (Springer Singers), etc.
We couldn't be happier with Springer Elementary School. Our daughter is in Kindergarten and LOVES her school, from her wonderful, caring, nurturing teacher, to her new friends, and even the fun playground. We too feel that her teacher is awesome! She is very attuned to each child and really works with each of them and their personalities. In the classroom, there is also an additional teacher and an aid. Parent volunteers are visible daily in the Kindergarten classroom during 'centers'. The families that we have met are great! We are so glad that we moved into the neighborhood. Every Springer family that we've spoken is very happy to be sending their child to Springer.
Springer is an absolutely wonderful elementary school! It has a high quality/dedicated staff, great families, beautiful new campus, and ample playground space. The teachers and staff are committed to providing the best education possible for each and every grade, class and individual. In addition to the curriculum, the principal heads up a Lifeskills program that teaches and reinforces values such as respect, responsibility, friendship and caring. In all, Springer is more than a school. It is a community, dedicated to raising children to become the best that they can be.
