I moved into the area four years ago and have been so impressed and delighted with Mountain View High. My kids have thrived - meeting great friends, having terrific, attentive teachers, and a wealth of extra-curricular clubs, teams and programs.

Excellent and caring teachers. Strong academics - plenty of AP and Honors classes to keep kids challenged. Nice campus. A positive student environment. Very friendly and open. Hard for kids not to feel supported. I have a junior and freshmen and they are both really happy at MVHS.

My daughter is a sophmore this year and she has so much homework but it is fantastic because she is learning so much. She is learning so much more than I did at Los Altos in the 80's. She tried so hard to get the best grades. It really has changed. It isn't all about cute boys and Candies wedge shoes anymore. LOL.

The Vocal music department is the greatest. The teacher is innovative and very caring. The Madrigals are rated among the country's best, by hard work and dedication. Students are highly encouraged to further their education, and contribute to society.

Great school. Challenging curriculum (though it's sort of two tracks only -- regular classes can be boring for bright kids, but the Honors and AP alternatives are really hard. The Honors courses (esp. in Science) are really using the AP texts. A lot of parents would like something in between. But, that's my only criticism. Amazing faculty, very caring and supportive, always respond to emails, always looking out for the kids. Great extracurriculars, wonderful performing arts program including all instrumentals, marching band, 3 choirs, dance, drama. Beautiful campus.

Just graduated. It was an amazing experience to be part of MVHS. The staff is caring and helpful; the curriculum is challenging; the resources are bountiful. I'd say MV is a 10! I'm on my way to East coast college and feel well prepared.

I go to Mountain View High and I love it! There are a bunch of extracurricular activities and sports. The teachers are also experienced.

I currently go here to this school and I was really impressed. The teachers and staff made me feel welcome to this school. The teachers know their subjects well and they help students learn the subject better if they do not get it. Their teaching quality is probably one of the best in the state of California. Great job Mountain View! Go Spartans!

Excellent school! My son graduated as co-valedictorian in 2006. He was able to take calculus his junior and senior years. Excellent bio II year-long research project. Great sports teams. Teachers are very committed and genuinely interested in their students. Parents are involved but not overly so. Highly recommend!

Two of our 5 children attended Mountain View. They were very excited because of the good things they had heard about the teachers and the variety of classes they would be able to attend. We were very pleased with all of their academic classes and the help and effort the teachers put forth for their classes.

Excellent, safe, and well run high school. Academic programs maintain high standards and prepare graduates with a complete and solid foundation for advance college/university studies. Extracurricular activities are abundant and well run. Very high percentage of students(>98%) continue with higher education.

I am a current student in Mountain View. The academics here are definitely above average and most of the teachers (especially those that teach honors and AP classes) here are good. We have a great band program; open access policy to AP/H classes. The campus is pretty nice as well.

I am a student at MVHS and I feel lucky to be there. We have a great school with very good teachers. We have award winning performing arts programs and good sports teams. We also have a quiz kids team that compete regularly. We have a Tutorial Center with many tutors and references. The school also offers SAT prep courses. Most of the teachers are very experienced and we can learn from them easily. They are very easy to talk to and ask questions about assignments. I highly recommend this school.

About the tests


In 2012-2013 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

The different student groups are identified by the California Department of Education; if there are fewer than 10 students in a particular group in a school, the state doesn't report data for that group.
