Shivela isn't a bad school but I'm certainly not impressed with it - my daughter is not leaving there thinking, "wow, what a great 3 years" and I'm excited for her to exit. The teachers have been great (with the exception of 1, not bad in 3 years) but I think that they spend more time caring about dress code (which is ridiculous in this valley where it is HOT) than promoting school spirit, fun activities, an engaging environment, etc....dull, dull, dull...and they have two different breaks/luch breaks mixed with all grades...is it really a mystery why kids want to talk in class when they don't even get to share break/lunch with their friends? Their "rules" make no sense. If you can get past that, academically it's good....but every student my child ever befriend in extracurricular activities went to THOMPSON - Shivela should take notes.

Involved, caring teachers and wonderful administrators are key! Add to that an attutude of respect for others that is instilled in the students and you've got a winning combination!

Some teachers are great, some not so great. no teachers are awful. principal rides around in a golf cart, and rarely speaks to students. great library, great band program, the theater arts program was really good. Lots of fights. overall, its not horrible, but nothing spectacular. if you go there, just stay out of trouble, you should be ok. p.s. the counselors are friendly.

The administration and staff are awesome! The approach to student responsibility is great. It is a safe environment. The staff is wonderful. My son just 'promoted' from there. I don't think we could have had a better experience anywhere in the world!

My son has attended 6th and 7th grade at this school. I've been impressed with the overall environment of the school. It's a safe, supportive environment. The teachers have been some of my son's all-time favorites, and my son would often come home excited to tell all about what he'd just learned (quite a feat for a usually aloof pre-teen). I would highly recommend this school.

Since day one we've had nothing but problems with the staff at this school. Problems ranging from racial, disrespect, unprofessional behavior and just not caring about the kids. I have nothing good or nice to say about this school. All I can say is I'm taking my son out!
