As a student of NVA for the past year I feel that I have accomplished more in my education that I have in my entire high school career. I have never felt so motivated to want to do well in school. The teachers all care about me and work with me individually to help me reach my goals. They all care about me personally. Ms. Hartman, our principal truly takes the time to see if we are on track to graduate and make sure our needs are met. I knew that this was the place I wanted to be after meeting her the first time with my mom. Through this program I am excited about going to college and work towards becoming a vet. I would recommend this to all the students.
Napa Valley Alternative is a wonderful option for my son. It took some adjustment getting used to this new way of learning. Independent study requires dicipline and time management. My son's grades are so much better and he loves his new school. It is made clear that being a student at NVA is a privilege and not an easy way through high school. Much is expected of the kids and the program is managed with a firm but fair hand by the teachers and the principal. I can not praise this program enough! The dedicated staff is First Cab and I feel so honored being able to send my son to such a school. This is as good of an education a student can get!
I attended this school for part of my senior year. It was great for what I needed. Due to family situations I needed as little time in school and as much time to work as possible. I was able to attend school 2 hours per week and work full time. The best thing about NVAS is that I was able to finish my entire 2nd semester in just 6 weeks. I would not suggest this school as an alternative to a traditional high school unless you are looking for more of a 'home school' approach. There is very little interaction with other students and there are no extra curriculars.
The atsmosphere and genuine caring that is shown to each student is amazing. The number of students is small, and the cirriculum is individualized to each student; such to the point that they can address each issue as it arises. LOVE this school and staff.
My son has been at NVA for four years. Not only has he excell but he has gained confidence in his abilities to achieve and it has shown academically. A standing ovation goes to his teachers and especially to Mrs. Hartman that always believe in him even when he did not believe in himself. She has been compassionate while providing strategies not only for learning but about life.
My daughter has attended NVA for the last 3 years, and I have watched her grades improve tremendously. The teachers and staff genuinely believe in their students, and take the time to show them that they are interested in their success.
I really do feel the teachers are part of our team. The one on one we have with them is wonderful, and they really get to know our kids and their families! Napa Valley Alternative is really the best!
Its a much better school than a regular public high school. The student seems to learn much better and you work one-on-one with your teachers.
This school is the best school my child has attended and we've moved to 5 different cities and she's been to 7 different schools. The class choices are limited due to funding but they have most of the classes regular high schools teach. The teachers have one-on-one time with the students which can really help their academic achievements. The parents can come to class with the students, make parents teacher conferences whenever needed, and the teachers try their best to help the kids move forward at their own pace. It puts a lot less stress on the students.
