Great campus, but some teachers seem to lack full knowledge of what they know and seem not to follow a specific curriculum, which makes the teaching slightly sloppy. Teachers are not monitored on their teaching and they seem to forget to teach necessary things needed for college. Math is WAY far behind other schools and is very unadvanced with a very slow learning pace. Public schools taught algebra one for seventh-graders and what i learned in one year of algebra one was taught in algebra one and two at Sage, essentially making algebra 2 the second half of algebra 2. The placement test is very inaccurate and will usually lead your child into taking the same math class a second year. Sports wise, all of the coaches are great. Also, the teachers even though helpful at times, seem to run on their own schedule for extra help even though the school "says" the education is oriented towards the student. There is freedom at Sage, but at the same time the staff always over reacts to small situations and makes them big because they are so oriented towards their image. The school is very oriented on getting donations and will do anything to get them even at the expense of their students.
Academically speaking, I've had a all-round excellent education, with the teachers being so helpful and caring, I couldn't ask for anything more. Socially speaking however, I've found it very hard to try and fit in with a group, probably because I never attended here as a freshman and everyone has sort of found their social circle by then.
At Sage Hill School, the teachers are your student's heroes, the athletic and arts directors are their role models, and the college counselors are their guides, while the community wraps its arms around the entire package. It sounds rather magical, doesn't it? As a parent of a graduate and current student, Sage Hill provides a superior academic atmosphere, talented faculty, and an administration that is not afraid to go "out-of-the-box." The Sage Hill education is for the student who strives to make a difference!
My daughter is so happy here. Academics are superb and the faculty are all amazing. The gorgeous facility doesn't hurt either.
Love the school! The curriculum is great and everyone is so supportive! It's worth the tuition, so you all should apply!
Our daughter just graduated. Academics at times can be brutal, I think they lightened up a little since she started. But she survived and was more than ready to take on the world. Doing great in college socially and education wise. It was a good experience overall but was very difficult at times and ended up costing much more that what we started at. Great work habits, good with groups, good level of maturity, I think she got a lot out of it, but it was not easy.
I had a student graduate from Sage in 2007 and I have my second child currently attending. My oldest is absolutely doing outstanding in her college classes. Many of her textbooks were already familiar to her. My second loves her classes also. I think it is a lovely environment where your child feels safe, and happy to go to school. The big world is waiting and they will get there soon enough, why not let them enjoy life a little longer.
sage is nothing like i imagined. sage could deffinently be a great opportunity for some kids, but like the other comments said, they baby you. i dont want to have this advisory thing taking up half my day. sage is almost trying to hard to create a 'relaxing' enviroment, but you really just have too much free time and its caddy. im deffinently considering leaving sage soon!
Everything I thought was so great about sage is now what I hate about it. The small class sizes are what you'd expect in primary school and this is high school. Being in high school should prepare you to function in large environments (like business) with tons of people, but sage simply wants everyone to stay in their comfort zones and stay in a small community setting. Because of this reason, I can conclude that sage lacks the ability to prepare its students for the real world beyond college. Also at Sage, everyone is always nice to each other, willing to work with anyone, and always reaching out to others. I'm not saying this is a bad thing but in the real world no one is always going to be there to give you a helping hand. Another thing about sage are these advisories. I think they are a bad idea. Students shouldn't be herded like sheep in this way and always be forced to sit with and meet with these people. Students should be free to choose their own friends and not have the school choose for them. As for report cards, comments are not necessary. This is in another way like grade school; the teachers point out the students' weaknesses for them and expect them to come ask questions. In high school, it is the students' and only the students' objective to find out their weaknesses theirselves and go ask questions. Because of this lack of skill for one to find his/her weakness, sage students might have trouble finding their weaknesses when it comes time for college.
I have a child who's a freshman, and the school has exceeded our expectations -- small class environment (my daughter's class sizes range from 13 to 18), superb teaching staff, high academic expectations (but supportive in having my daughter be successful in her classes), and small (but not too small -- about 450 students) school environment in which every student has to chance to participate in over 20 sports teams, clubs, yearbook, etc. College counseling is also top-notch. End result is we believe our daughter will receive an excellent education at Sage.
