This is my daughters second year at this school and I aske her if she wants to move to a bigger school, 'noooo' she replied. If your child is an honor student in middle school, then he has what it takes to take AP or honor classes in high school. Because NAHS is a small school, the students can take AP until 10th grade but can take honors classes in 9th. Sometimes us parents do not take the time and check or ask what a school offers and also it's up to the student to perform as he should.
I'm a senior attending Northridge Academy atm, and while i do agree that in some aspects our schooling is weak, it annoys me that people are complaining about our teachers, making it sound like they're the problem. Anyone who claims that this school didn't prepare them for college needs to take a deep, self evaluation, and realize that it was their own lack of intrinsic motivation that caused them not to succeed, not the other way around. Many people like to criticize this school for being so small that rumors get spread. Well i have news for you, 1) any school is going to have rumors and 2) why do rumors have any bearing on the credibility of the school. Moreover, in many ways the size of our school aids students and makes them feel more welcome in that almost every staff member knows who you are and that you exist.
This school is the worst school ever. The school does not have the best teacher. My child was in honors in middle school now he is not in honors. If your child is not self motivated this is not the school for you. Your child might not go to a good college beacause he did not
I toured several schools before choosing NAHS. This school seemed to be -by far- better than the other choices in the Valley. After visiting the classrooms on back t school night and on conference night, I am convinced this was the right choice for us. The teachers seem to beon top of their jobs. The advisory class is such a great concept! I wish that would have been made available to me when I was in HS! The technology they use is bettter than what I saw at the other campuses. The fact that the campus is small makes it all the better for my son. He is fluorishing and that gives me a satisfying feeling! The office staff has been nothing but courteous to me ad my family.
Too much wasted time... Only good was Arias, Atmore, Alexopolus, Bonilla and Shufelt. With rowdy students and unmotivated subsitutes this school has and has had many growing pains. Because the school is small it is very clicky, and gossip travels through teachers to students and students to teachers. Take much consideration before sending your child there. If they want to do football this isn't the school for them. If they want to do film send them to Cleveland High School. Film is a popularized advertisement tool for NAHS but it is not a strong point!
Boy, has this school gone downhill. Test scores are low. Ths adminastration is due for a change. If they spend as much energy being nice to the students as they do being mean and degrading, it could be a fabulous school. Too much time spent on the ridiculous and not enough on reality. Thank goodness my student is done. If your child needs special help, don't send them here.
After 3 years in this school (10-12)I am SO glad my daughter is done. She had a few fantastic teachers, but the majority were not up to par. The career & college counselor was very good. Just making sure all of the i's were dotted and t's crossed in order to graduate was an ordeal I never wish to go through ever again. Lastly, the administration was not very welcoming to parents. It is a shame because this school had the potential, and still does, to be a great school, but it needs more exemplary leadership.
I was a former student at NAHS, and my experience was horrible. The teachers and staff are horrible. I transfered from a great school to go to NAHS because I was told that I would be able to take courses based off of the major that I was interested in if I chose the 'academy' I wanted. I was also told that I would be able to take any classes I wanted honors or AP, as well as any sport. But during the year and a half I was there, none of that happened, the classes are not challenging, the classes were so limited that I was not able to change classes or even choose the courses that I wanted and I did not even get to take a sport. Many people may think NAHS is a great learning environment due to its small campus. There is nothing positive to say.
After 3 years at NAHS I can honestly say the charm has worn off. The staff is inefficient, the teachers inexperienced & the administrators are uncaring and much too busy looking for ways to raise money that the education & social well being of the students is completely unimportant. The staff is so small the students cannot transfer to another class. I am unhappy with my decision to send my child there and will not be sending my other child there. Also, there was once a small, but involved PTA that has now been disbanned due to constant opposition by the staff & administration. There is a parent group on campus, but they have yet to accomplish much either.
This is a small, excellent, public school. My son feels very safe here. His freshmen year had a few glitches but they were handled quickly and professionally by the faculty and administration. No school can be perfect, but NAHS is as close to prefect as can be found in the San Fernando Valley. I heartily recommend this school to any parent who wants a high level of academics, a responsive staff, and a safe school for their child. - Lynda
I am a student at new valley, now named northridge academy high it is a great learning enviroment it is always clean the other students and staff are just amazing I love there it is the best school that I have ever been to!
I think that this school is one of the best high schools in the sanfernando valley. And all of ther academics and the way that they have set up the teachers to do serten things with there classes is a good thing to do.
I am very please with the school. The school is small, my son is very happy there. He knows most every student and all the teachers know him. There is a wide range of classes as well as a wide range of academic levels. It is wonderful to start at a new school with a staff so eager to teach and grow and it's great to be part of that. The students, staff & parents got to pick the name, mascot & colors. We have sports starting this year in our beautiful new gym and the students & community are excited to cheer on their school. This year the students start their special learning academies and everyone is very eager to see how they will go. We have a great group of very involved teachers & parents here as well & we will have some more extracurricular activities too.
