Our time at Dearborn Street Elementary was terrible. My child experienced issues with a cold and inattentive teacher and a principal on a power-trip. Any concerns were quickly disregarded which displayed to us that the principal cares more about the reputation of the school, than what is best for the children. We are happily not attending this school anymore.
As a parent of children at Dearborn, I am very pleased with the education they are getting there. I have always felt welcomed and encouraged to be a part of my children's school life. The staff is very professional and welcoming. Although the principal is not a "warm and fuzzy" type person, she is an excellent administrator who is fair and consistant with all of the students. I feel that my children are very safe on the Dearborn campus and the teachers there are absolutely amazing. I highly recommend this school!
Be very careful....Principal favoritism. If you can't do for her, she isn't interested in you.
Dearborn is a great school in Northridge. Our API is 845 and we met all of our AYP accountabilities.Dearborn has won many awards including the 2011 Music Center Bravo Award, the Inclusive School Award and Campus Beautiful. Dearborn is a California Distinguished School and also won the Title 1 Academic Achievement Award. Our PTA President won the 31st District "President of the Year" award and the Dearborn PTA was voted Unit of the Year in 2010. Our SAS program is excellent and we work with every child to reach his/her potential. We invite parents and community members to become involved in our school.
Dearborn is an amazing school. They care about the kids and make the parents feel welcome. The level of instruction is outstanding and the teachers and staff are top notch. They offer so much to the children outside of the normal instruction.....ballroom dancing, pyschomotor, theater, music, dance...the list goes on.
Thank goodness for Dearborn. The school's dedication to programs like Character Counts and Coach John Wooden's Pyramid of Success is a reflection of the heart of the school. The beautiful paintings and quotes around the school teach the children more than academics alone. It is because the Principal and Teaching Staff, PTO and volunteers are kind and considerate that the children excel and increase their test scores year after year. Thank you Dearborn Teachers and Staff for a great few years - we wish we could stay in Elementary forever.
This school is my home school and it's our 1st year attending after coming from another district where I work. I wish i would've put my daughter here in Kindergarten, she is now in the 2nd grade. Her teacher is an amazing, hands-on, caring teacher. I wish all teachers were like her. I'm constantly getting updates of the current LAUSD issues, fund raisers for the school, information on after school activities, etc....The Principal is everywhere all the time and always says hello and will be the 1st to help you when you walk into the office. The parent involvement is very high and there is ALWAYS something going on at the school. My daughter wakes up every single morning excited to come to Dearborn.
Dearborn is our home school....we love it...our kids love it. The teachers that our kids have had have been surperb in everyway. The principal is an amazing leader and loves and respects the kids. Both of our children have their orange folders because of this wonderful school.
Dearborn is a school where everyone is welcome. The academics are strong, the library and computer lab and arts program have been fantastic! We are so glad to be part of this school where the principal and staff take the time to help everyone regardless of who they are. Mrs. Hirsch is helpful and the staff in the office really keeps the school running great.
At this school, don't expect the principal to do anything for you. She never listens to any parents who raise any issues or concerns. Never offer any help or solutions eventhough you ask for it she just looks down at you and makes you leave her office , by saying she is busy or has other things to do .
