My daughter is about to complete her first year at Lorne and I couldn't be happier. She transferred from a school that had taken her motivation into one that has inspired her to learn more. As a parent, I am brought to tears that she is happier than ever to be here, but sad that i waited so long to do so. If you want your child to be willing to do anything to achieve, then bring her here.

I don't know what school the previous parent review is referring to but it can't be Lorne. Teachers are willing to meet in person or speak on phone depending on who you have. However the best way to communicate with them is by email and will set up a time to meet in person that way. The principal is a great leader who truly has an open door policy. To say that he is intimidated makes no sense since he actively runs to the school unlike some who work behind their desk. You will not find better parent involvement at any school anywhere. The PTA is extremely active and the President not only has a son in college who used to attend Lorne but has a little girl who STILL attends. The rest of the PTA board members all have kids who attend and are very active with fiund raising and working with the school and the staff. Perhaps if the previous reviewer was actually involved with the PTA or with the school instead of posting baseless and false reviews they would know that. The school playground is mostly blacktop but there is ample shaded area and a huge grass area at the center of the school. If you want a school that works as a true partner with you for your child this is it.

The parent who posted the negative comment was only on campus once to register her kindergartener. Why was she here if our, school is so bad? Our office ladies are so accommodating and would do anything for our students and faculty. They also are so supportive of all of our MANY parent volunteers.

Lorne St/Lorne Magnet is the best school my child has ever attended...He is new to 5th grade, able to enjoy his new environment, friends, and loving it! Lorne has the best academic, music, and leadership programs taught by compassionate and excellent teachers/mentors. He will be talking about Mr Carver for many years to come... Kudos to the school's PTA, faculty, staffs, and Mr. Merritt for a job well done. Best decision I have ever made!.

Great PTA, caring teachers, Principal who cares. Math/Science standards enforced and Gifted teachers available. This is the second round with daughter at the school, and even though many of my son's teachers have left, their replacements are GREAT TEACHERS!

My son has been at Lorne since Kindergarten and will be entering the 5th Grade. We have loved every teacher that he has had throughout. Each one has been instrumental in the success that he has had with all that he has attempted and accomplished in school.

This school is great!! An awesome principal, wonderful teachers and a dedicated PTA!! This is by far one of the best (tucked away) schools in the LAUSD!! Absolutely no issues with bullies! (i think the person that posted that was just a grumpy, crazy person!!) The principal and teachers are on top of any issues that may arise. No safety issues here!! I agree that Math/Science standards are enforced!!!

My whole family loves this school. There's great cooperation between teachers & parents. There is a very high number of parents who are involved in volunteer activities, and people are always willing to help. Most of the teachers are loved by their students, and teachers have a tendency to stay for a long time. The Principal works very hard to keep everything organized & moving forward, and acts as a great liaison between the faculty, staff, students, and parents. The PTA is very active, and raises a lot of money that goes towards art activities, field trips, class projects, and art projects, as well as funding the psycho-motor physical education program. My oldest, entering his sophomore year in high school, went there, and my two younger kids are entering 1st & third grade this year.

My child attended Kindergarten and it was a good experience for the most part considering it is a LAUSD school. His K teacher was very nice and patient and appeared to really care about teaching the kids. PTA is strong and most parents appear to care and help out with donations, etc. The only issue I have and this is with LAUSD schools in general is the drastic budget cuts and not enough resources for the teachers. There are too many students at this school and my fear was that my child would be lost and not receive enough 1 on 1 attention. I am sending my child to private school for the coming school year and will be basically paying for smaller class size and more individual attention. If I could not afford tuition I would defenitely keep him at lorne street.

This school is amazing and many of the teachers are very dedicated to the students. The PTA does so much to help raise money and fund as many things as they can. But it does have a problem with taking care of bullies, they don't really do much to stop it or help deter it.

So far I am very impressed with this school. My children entered the magnet program in Sept. after going to a public charter school, and the education is definitely at a higher level. Their two teachers are both highly competent and caring. Other strong points are the orchestra, the library, the free after school programs, and the PTA. My kids are making friends and are enjoying the school's spirit. They also get magnet points for middle school.

Lorne St is one of the better schools in the LAUSD. Their PTA works very hard to maintain as much activities for the kids as possible with the limited resources they have. Yes, they send out flyers for almost everything, but it's expected since LAUSD removed funding for almost every extracurricular activity. My youngest had Mrs. Sachs and my eldest had Mrs. Matsuno. I have to say last year was one of the best school year yet. Mrs. Sachs is very calm and soft spoken; she manages her kids very well. Her demeanor is reflected by how calm/manageable her students are. Mrs. Matsuno is enthusiastic in her teaching that helps her kids stay focus while learning. She will go out on the yard and participate in activities with her kids. I think she has more energy than some of her students. Both teachers are awesome. They identify the strength and weaknesses of their students and will spend time 1 on 1 to help each child grow. This school is a complete opposite of the last LAUSD School my children attended. I m giving them 4 STARS because their magnet program is only from 3-5th grade. It would be nice if it started from 1st. Parents involvement will determine how successful a child can be.

This school definitely has its strong points, but there are some weak links in the chain. My oldest son attended Lorne from 1st-5th grade. He spent 3 of those 5 years with teachers who really shouldn't be teaching: one retired, one is almost retired and the third is far from retirement (unfortunately). The staff and administration were great, but there is new people there now who I don't know very well. There are better schools in LAUSD and certainly outside of the district as well. However, the best part of Lorne is the PTA. They work tirelessly for the kids to have the things they need during this challenging economic time.

My daughter who is in 3rd. grade, was born 23 weeks premature. She is doing fine but still catching up with her peers. The teachers, staff and administration at Lorne St. have gone many extra miles to assist her success! I have been plesently surprised at the loving care she is getting in this school. We feel blessed. (her dad)

My son started in January of 3rd grade in the Math/Science magnet at Lorne Street; we immediately saw a leap in his interest in school, as well as his grades. we loved all the teachers he had there - all were very involved & really cared about the students. He got accepted at the top Math/Science magnet middle school in the Valley for 6th grade, and has done very well there, as well, i think due to his excellent preparation at Lorne street.

I love Lorne St. Elementary School because of all the positive people including students, staff and parents. I love that my son enjoys going to school everyday. Lorne St. Elementary is the best because it's a school that every child would love to go to. The teachers are spectacular, warm and always inviting. The learning program at Lorne is above and beyond many schools in the Valley.

We pulled our son out of an overcrowded private school where he wasn't getting the one on one he needed, so we brought him here to Lorne Street from 2nd grade + (he's now in 5th) and let me tell you...what a turn around! He's in the gifted/magnet program! This is a wonderful school with excellent teachers and a principal who really cares about her school. This is a diamond in the rough, don't let this school get away!

I have 6 children in which 5 of them have or are still attending Lorne for the past 8 years. For the most part the school is pretty great in comparison to others and they are really focused on fund raising so the children ACTUALLY get to go on field trips, keep a great library and have after school tutoring. Put it this way, Lorne does not even have summer school sessions because there aren't even enough kids falling to do so.

As a parent I was very discouraged about sending my child to a public school as I had to private school as a child and heard all the horor stories about LAUSD. This school has neen nothing but a positive experience for us. The teachers in the KG level are excellent!! I couldnt be happier about the edgucation that my child has received. A+ principal and staff. If your looking to send you child to this school, look no further. Thank You Lorne Street Elementary!!!!!!

My son attended Lorne K-2nd grade and then entered their math/science magnet program 3rd - 5th grade. We were very satisfied with his education; the teachers were excellent and their reading program is very effective. The earlier grades were nurturing and supportive. As they moved up, the teachers encouraged them to be more independent and responsible in preparation for middle school. My son did not want to leave Lorne and still misses it now that he is in middle school.

My niece attends this school and loves it. She is in the Magnet program that starts in the 3rd grade...prior to that, she was a bit bored. She was reading and doing simple math while still in pre-school so she was ahead of the game and had to tread water a while. Good clean, safe school. Great teachers in the Magnet program.

great curriculum, great teachers in both residence and magnet classes. My 5th grader daughter has been in the magnet program in this school since 3rd grade and it has been an awesome education and experience for her. My other daughter is in 1st grade now (went here for K) and I cannot complain. She is as smart as her older sister who actually started out as a private school student from pre-K to 2nd grade. Lorne St School has great teachers, facilities and after-school programs.

Two of our children went to this school and we have nothing but good things to say about them. You need to know a little about how things work in LAUSD but that is it. One of my sons needed special ed due to a speech problem and once we got it off the ground, again you need to know how to go about it -- it has nothing to do with the school -- they were excellent. Loved the teachers, the office and the staff all around.

We moved to this neighborhood for this school -- great word of mouth, scores, etc. When it came time to get our child in, could not get BASIC information from the office staff and the aftercare didn't return five phone calls or a message thru the office! Attitudes were poor all around, couldn't get information, everyone was 'too busy' to talk to us parents, etc. We basically decided to go to another LAUSD school thru open enrollment because they would talk to us and treated us with some respect. Budgets may be tight, yes, but common courtesy is free. Lorne apparently doesn't know that. Too bad all the high achieving kids will be long gone soon due to such treatment of the parents...
