The students at Hill Middle School are out of control. The adults on campus don't do anything to control the disruptions and chaos on campus. Take this from a person who goes around to middle schools to assess the school climate. They need to raise their standards in life skills.
Excellent Principal and staff, as well as small school size (approx 500 students) make this a very close nit school; Also, the students are very diverse and tolerant of diversity.
It is a great school since the parents are always in the center of involvment. it always gives a great sense of community involved and students are truly the main focus and the high goal of school and not just for reputation. They do matter!
The kids work hard. The teachers don't teach down. The new principal is beyond fabulous!
Im a 7th grader at hill and i have to say it is the best of all the middle schools in novato. Some of the teachers are dislikable but most of them are motivating and good role modles. Most kids dont get made fun of, but truthfull some of them do, but the staff at hill will take care of that. I would recomend putting your kids into hills excelent academic soceity.
My children are currently in 7th grade at Hill and have been adequately challenged by the work, as I would hope. Though there seems to be a high level of student conflict and 'mean girls', my kids have been able to focus on the academics and make their own circle of friends. Hill also has involved parents, some teachers that encourage and reward as well as some teachers that condescend or try too hard to 'be cool'. All in all, I believe this school is wonderful.
I have had two children go through Hill Middle School. Both very different in personality and acemically. I have seen teachers who are wonderful, caring and are in the professiona for the right reasons. I know of at least two who if they take a dislike of the student it reflects on how the student is treated. The old administration will be missed however I also look forward to the new.
This school has terrific academics, and a staff that is very committed to doing whatever it takes to reach each student. I have been very impressed with the school culture of caring, and the extent to which teachers are in touch with the difficult socio-emotional issues that come with middle school. My daughter is thriving at Hill, and I know parents whose students are struggling feel that the school has provided excellent support to help turn things around.
I am fine with a 4 star rating at this time. The school is definetly on the right path for excellence. My son and I are very happy with the teachers and academics. Safety and discipline are issues that should be addressed to be a 5 star school. I would give a 5 star for the principal, she works so hard to get the school to be great. My son and I are very happy at Hill School as there is a feeling of caring and sharing which is important to us all.
Some teachers don't seem to have control of the classes; too many disruptive students and seeming lack of strict adherence to behavior policies.
