NOCCS has been a really good decision for us. Wonderful teachers who go the extra mile. For our family, this was the best. Would I change a few things? Sure. But in the end as my daughter finishes her 8th grade and moves on from here, I am grateful for this community's inclusiveness and challenging academics.
This school is great for elemantary but the 6-8 is not right for the school. The teachers are great at teaching younger kids but ASM (All school meeting) is defenitly based for the younger kids. Many activities treat the older kids as if we were 2nd graders, bullying is a problem in the upper school. This school has many events such as "Grandparents day" to get in peoples wallets.
A public charter school promoting a real love of learning. Now K through 8th. We are so glad that we have this option for our son.
There acidemics are strong. They hve really made a safe and warm place that my daughters loves to go to everyday. How many kids really enjoy being at school. This is thanks to staff, teachers and parents all working together.
small, personalized instruction and attention where all students and adults are honored. art integrated curriculum and an emphasis on community and social responsibility. caring environment. safe.
My daughter teaches at this school and I love how student-centered and caring everyone is.
NOCCS is a community of diverse parents, teachers, administrators and board members who are committed to a teaching for understanding curriculum. Parents are viewed as a resource, everyone has a skill that can benefit the community. Admission to a charter school is via a lottery, guaranteeing equal access to any child in the Bay Area.
NOCCS is an inclusive, vibrant and creative school community. It is a true learning community and skillfully includes kids with special needs.
NOCCS is actually K-8 now. I have already written a review, so I just wanted to point out that we have a middle school as well. As of this writing Greatschools says k-5.
We are new to NOCCS this year, but so far have been very happy. NOCCS has a nurturing, dynamic team of educators, who think outside the box to educate our children. They honor each child's unique abilities and teach to the child, not to the test. My son is thriving and I couldn't be happier with his progress thus far.
I love the caring teaching community and progressive atmosphere at NOCCS. The Teaching for Understanding program ensure that my child gets to work on engaging projects and is challenged.
Our daughter is in 4th grade at NOCCS. Her class is a combination 4/5 which is great since she will spend two years with the same teacher. This is her first year at NOCCS and she really loves the school. I have been very impressed with the creativity of the assignments she has received both in class and for homework. As others have said, there is a very tight community at NOCCS with parents chipping in and volunteering to keep the school running smoothly. Academic expectations are high but pressure is low, and as far as I can tell most students seem to really thrive in that environment. This school may not be right for everyone, but it is certainly working for us!
It's a diverse school with good kids. The school has a great recycling center and garden, which the kids get to grow food and plants.
My two grandsons attend, I have visited the classes and school, and am very impressed with Teachers, Leaders, and above all, the cutticulum used to educate.
I love their innovative teaching style and format, which I believe we should support so that other more 'conventional' public schools may follow their effective model.
NOCCS rocks!! What a wonderful place for children to learn! Wonderful academics! Wonderful teachers! And organic lunches! This school has its priorities right!!
These are some really groovy folks (teachers, parents and students alike) who really care about their school and school community.
I love North Oakland Community Charter School because it offers an educational option to the expensive private schools and public schools in the community. The high educational rating at NOCCS promotes a higher standard for all of the schools in the area by excelling at teachng in the elementary grade level.
