I do not think this school is preparing children for the future, there "computer specialist" teaches kids GIMP the free Photoshop Kids Don't need to know how to use Photoshop to Run a business or get a job they need PowerPoint, MW, and Microsoft programs and typing practice, There's a Base of Hispanic Students who don't speak English and will graduate high school without even knows how to speak English in America! There's No History Classes. So I'm not even sure if this school meets A-G requirements. they teach Turkish (Useless Language In America). At least they have a Spanish class. The school needs to be looked at closely by the ousd.
Bay Area Technology School is the best school in town and highly recommended!!! From 6th grade until now 12th grade, my son and I are very satisfied for what they offer like free after school program which is awesome! Tutoring even it's late or over the weekend. They prepare students to graduate. they have practice test to help you pass SAT. They also have AP courses that's help for college application. They have piano, arts, drama club for extra learning and for language learning they offer Spanish and Turkish class. You can check online for your child progress, grades, homework, etc.. Principal, teachers and staffs are nice, very helpful and friendly. If your child start learning and disciplined at home they will love and appreciate Baytech.
I have two children attending BayTech this year. Although it is true that we are fairly new to the school, I have been quite happy with what I've seen so far. The teachers have readily made appropriate accommodations for my special needs children, have communicated regularly with me about my children, and willingly address our concerns. The OUSD Special Education teacher has shown himself to be quite capable when pulling my kids out for services. My children feel free to explore their education and are given the tools to challenge themselves--working at their own pace during enrichment time and putting forth extra effort in their various after-school activities. Whether it be Student Council, tutoring other students, learning piano, playing basketball, or just talking with a favorite teacher after school, I know that they are learning valuable life skills. The fact they have the ability to learn foreign languages is a tremendous asset. Learning a second language, no matter what language it is, builds connections in the brain that other classes can't. Language and cultural teaching causes the brain to think much more flexibly.
Bay Area Technology school is the best community school in Oakland. It offers quality education in a caring, family like environment. The class sizes are small so teachers are able to cater for the needs of the individual students. I love this school and therefore have enrolled my younger child now for next year. Baytech is the best!
Are you kidding me? I don't know who filled out the Programs & Culture section but 99% of it is a lie. There are no special education classes, as an OUSD resource teacher is brought in and pulls certain students at different times. There is no ESL program going on, including no Spanish or Turkish Immersion program. (Ask yourself this as well: what purpose does learning Turkish have in the real world today? Virtually nothing.) There is no band program, other than a music class. Discipline is sparse, as students get away with anything and everything. The campus is littered with trash and the classroom resources are virtually non-existent. The administration is more worried about having high enrollment rather than having a successful school. Teacher turn-over is extremely high, there is minimal parental involvement (other than a parent who wants to run everything), and the administration is clueless about how to run a great school; leadership is beyond poor. Teacher quality comes and goes with the turn-over rate. Some teachers have great skills at this school, while others teach as if they are simply a warm body in the classroom.
This is a terrific school that has just moved to a new campus (kings Estates ) 8251 Fontaine St Oakland 94605. Near the Keller offramp, it is highly accessible from both Oakland, San Leandro, Castro Valley and Hayward. Class size is kept to a max of 24 but typically are under 20. Teachers are enthusiastic and the parents are really involved. The kids-who wear uniforms are actually HAPPY! Noisy, but it;s a joyful noise. My son is in his 2nd year here (7th grade) and is doing better academically than ever before. API scores are skyrocketing due to the combined efforts of faculty, parents, and mostly STUDENTS.
The best thing about the school is its classroom size. Not sure what the ratio is, but you can eyeball it and tell they are manageable. Another thing is that every night the students assignments and grades are posted online. I keeps me from having to prying it out of my child every night and allows me to stay on top of her assignments. Also, looks like its API scores are climbing. Not bad for a new charter school.
BayTech is very diverse school with many good teachers. I enjoy the diversity because it helps me with dealing with different cultures. Its a very small knit community and everybody knows everybody. All in all I'm glad I attend Bay Tech.
Awesome school. Great after school programs. They offer SAT tutoring on saturdays that are very helpful. They also offer UC Berkeley advanced science programs where they take you there and you get to work hands on with the professors. People who are intersted in science should come here becaue of the international science fair that they participate in. The teachers are always helpful and friendly. I love this school
The following are a few reasons I like the Bay Area Technology School (1) Knowledgeable teachers and good curriculum. (2) Individualized reading home work to meet the child's skill and challenge them at their level of interest. (3) helps the child to be creative, challenged, okay to make mistakes while learning, and teaches them to ask for help when needed. (4) Children learn emotional balance while growing. (5) Wonderful and friendly staff who really cares the children the most. (6) Good after-school program like study hall, outside play, and others until 6 pm (7) It gives me peace of mind at the end of the day that my kids are in a good environment. I love BayTech and recommend you to love too.
My son as a learning disability and some behavior issues. The administration did not engage and were not interested in helping him despite my attempt to get them to pay attention. The school grounds are very depressing, there is little control of the students.
After one year of trying to get accomodations for my son at Oakland Charter Middle School, I gave up and tried BayTech. The orientation was very thorough and they provided my son with a 504 two weeks after he was enrolled. I have never experienced such efficiency. The staff truly have the students interest as their priority. My home is less stressed. My son does not stay up until 1 -2 in the morning to finish homework. And, I have direct access to their daily homework, current grades, and emails to each of his teachers. This school has a great system set up for students and parents.
We are thrilled with the choice we made to send our son to sixth grade here. Even our son says he loves it there. They have a wonderful system to give positive strokes to the students and they really respond to it. The children are respectful and seem to trust and enjoy their teachers. Homework and the expectations are reasonable. All I see there are smiling, happy faces. This is a terrific school and so many afterschool activities. I highly recommend it.
I love this school. Before my daughter came to Baytech I made the decision to homeschool my daughter if necessary. My daughter is bright and was not adequately challenged at the private school she previously attended. I heard good things about Baytech and the school's focus on math, science, and computers were my daughter's academic strengths. My daughter has completed her first year and has rediscovered her love of learning. She loves her teachers and as a parent I appreciate thier enthusiasm for teaching and their accessibility. At Baytech the teachers and staff are available and encourage contact with parents. My daughter felt very safe in school and we felt comfortable sending her there. The focus on academic excellence is shared by my family and the school. We are looking forward to another great year.
Bay Area Technology School is the best school in Oakland. They have good teachers with well education knowledge. They know their subjects very well. Also all teachers are very nice to all their students. It has small setting classes. It gives the opportunity to learn all the material faster because teachers have the time to work with you one on one. Also, Bay Tech challenges all students that are above the standards and gives an opportunity to reach for the stars! I'm very proud to be a Bay Tech student.
BayTech is the best community school in the bay area. My son now actually loves math and can't wait to finish his homework. Teachers are great and helpful. Also free after school program which is awesome.
This is a great school with very dedicated teachers. Whenever there is a problem, you can have open communication with the principal and teachers, and they'll do their best to correct it. The previous location was not so great, the new one is much better.
The best in Oakland, Baytech has a small and safe learning environment, the teachers are the best in their subjects, most of them has Master's degree on their own major. And also for my daughter too, there's free after school programs till 6 pm Mon-Thu. It is worth being a parent of BayTech.
A great school at a new location. They have open houses every Saturday. Go and see.
Worst of the worst! Terrible environment for children! Bay Tech moved to north Oakland and it is at an all time low! Kids are totally out of control and the teachers cannot handle them. No learning is taking place- only fights and bullying. Worst mistake was sending my son there. The website is impressive but a total misrepresentation! The administration and majority of teachers are from Turkey and have no clue about inner city youths. It is total chaos at Bay Tech!
