Both of my daughters spent their first academic years in La Escuelita, from preK-5th grade. They learned so much and had the best of all experiences in this scholl. It prepared them 100% for middle school and beyond.

About this school

Our school is a gem! La Escuelita Elementary School was founded in 1975 by the parents of children from the child development center, Centro Infantil de la Raza. In August 2012, we moved into our new school, which is part of Phase 1 of the future Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 La Escuelita Education Center, located near Laney College and across from the Oakland Unified School District offices. We are currently in the incubation phase to grow La Escuelita to a TK (Transitional Kindergarten) through eighth grade school, with sixth grade being added first and an additional grade each year. Phase 2 will include preschool programs and MetWest High School. The exciting move into our new, green, energy-efficient building has created many possibilities for our growth into a Full-Service Community School. A health clinic (which will be shared with MetWest and Dewey High Schools) will open on our campus in late fall, and we will also host a farmers' market. We offer a strong academic program for grades TK through fifth grade, (including bilingual education for grades K-2) where teachers, parents, and community partner collaborations are key. In addition, as part of our campus we have the Special Education Reading Clinic. Our mission at La Escuelita is to prepare young people to reach their full potential and be confident, creative, contributors, to a multicultural society. Our afterschool provider for grades two through five, East Bay Asian Youth Center (EBAYC), offers academic support in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, along with many enrichment opportunities. Students at La Escuelita learn in caring classrooms with a climate of high expectations. We offer Language Arts/English Language Development, Friday school-wide Science with FOSS, Mathematics, Computer Preparation for all grades, volunteer Reading Support for third graders, New-Comer support for students new to country, Parent Literacy Classes, Playworks and Physical Education to support organized play, Caring School Community Class Meetings/Monthly Character Traits.
