Academic focus and philosophy

Educational philosophy and approach to learning Roosevelt Middle School's mission is to empower all students to be community leaders. To assess progress on this mission, we have organized a set of indicators under the general categories of a strong academic foundation, 21st Century Skills and a community ethic. To achieve each student's goals, we have established three categories of strategies: personalized learning, real-world application, and a whole child approach.

Special education program details We are moving towards fulfilling a vision of being a school that fully includes as many students with IEPs as possible in an educational experience that is the same as students without IEPs. We have one self-contained class for students with severe autism, and another self-contained class for students who have some moderate and some severe disabilities. For students with mold to moderate disabilities, we have some pull out and some mainstreamed classes.

English Language Learner program details For newcomers, we have a specialized program with a humanities teacher and a science/math teacher. Together, these two teachers focus on supporting students who have the most basic mastery of English. As students begin to develop their English skills, we assign them to general classes where there is a low student-teacher ratio so that teachers can focus on their needs.
