INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Freedom High has the potential to be a great school although its potential alone should not be mistaken as excellence. This school's faculty and administration needs reshaping in the area of discrimination policies. Freedom has a vast share of awesome teachers and administrators but on the other hand, it also has its quantity of biased teachers and staff. This school needs restructuring in other areas as well...such as the areas of bullying, repeat offenders in tolerated fighting, school safety, and security. Another thing, my son (who is highly athletic and scholastic) was discriminated against by a few of Freedom's football coaches. I have NEVER been through so many drastic issues like I've experienced with this school's athletic department. The coaches were able to predict that another African American athlete will definitely be a true success and they had to put a stop to allowing him the opportunity towards scholarly achievement.

As an incoming parent of a new student, coming into the office for the very first time with many questions, I was very frustrated upon leaving. The front desk person was rude and her answers to my questions were very vague. The registrar was even more rude, when told there was an incoming sophmore her response was "what about him?" right in front of me! As a family that is new to the city and school, they should understand how stressful moving and beginning a new school can be. At this point based on the office experience alone, I will drive my son 4 cities away to his current highschool. Very sad staff would have attitudes such as this, especially when they are the first impression of the school to newcomers

Freedom High School has a student centered environment. The campus is always abuzz with activities. Teachers collaborate on a regular basis to prepare a rigorous curriculum and prepare students for the future. Admin is supportive of students, teachers and the community. Academics are on the rise as we prepare for common core.

This is my 2nd child to attend freedom high, and I have been very satisfied with their progress. We moved to this area 13 years ago and one of the reasons was the schools. I am happy we chose this area!!

I have taught here for 11 years and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. We have an amazing staff that puts kids first: and the kids--awesome. Caring, compassionate, spirited are just a few of the words that describe our school. We're always working hard to improve, and everyone's involved in the process. I love this place!

Speaking both as a parent and teacher, I feel that Freedom has the most to offer students as they move from high school to college and/or career. The staff (administration, certificated and classified) all have the best interest of the student in mind. The students are great and work hard. Freedom is a great school to be at!

The staff works very hard, individually and collectively, on the behalf of their students. When students show difficulty in comprehension of a subject/concept, the staff collaborates in ways of improving/diversifying dissemination of information to meet the needs of those students.

My student feels valued as a student, challenged as a student and comes to school feeling safe and confident all staff are working on her behalf. She has excelled and is prepared for the next level of education.

Freedom is a school of pride. Students are proud to be from this school. It is always excelling in the education and safety of the students, so that together everyone achieves more. It is community minded. I had 2 of my children graduate from Freedom H.S. and they both have nothing but praise for this school and the excellent education they got here. I have worked here for over 12 years and I think there is no better school in the district or in the state of California.

Why do you love Freedom High School? Freedom has a caring and compassionate staff that focuses on students. Freedom challenges students, but provides many opportunities and interventions for students to succeed. Pride and enthusiasm resonate from students, staff, and the community in reference to Freedom.

My kids have gone to Freedom for two years now. I am impressed with the staff and I have always felt they have cared for the kids. My kids are not angels and I feel the VP have been fair and unbiased in their consquences. I feel my kids have become better students attending freedom.

I attended Freedom for all 4 years of high school. And I absolutly loved it. Every one of my teachers were great and gave the extra help when I needed it. There are a lot of clubs and sports, just not alot of people take advantage of joining them. I recomment getting involved in the clubs and leadership and sports there. It makes the whole experience a lot more enjoyable. I have noticed that now that I have graduated though, that the school is facing more and more problems with gang violence. Which is sad, but they are trying their best to deal with it.

Wow. I totally disagree with some of these comments. We recently moved here from Antioch and my children attend Freedom and they love Freedom. The teachers the sports programs the principal assigned to them called them directly and helped put them on the right path. We have had nothing but great postive experience with Freedom High I feel the staff and kids really care about their school.

I do agree that Freedom High School does have it's problems, I just wonder when it became the principals job to stop your son/daughters problems? His job is to control the issues at Freedom, yes. But there are to many finger pointing parents at Freedom

Limited quality clubs, community orientated programs. Principal volta fails to address the root of problems, thus they continue, only worse. I encourage one on one visits with your students teachers. Become involved. Students that are not top in the class seem to fall by the wayside, and when your finally notifed, it's too late! This school is not one for a student with any type of learning disability. This school is fine for a student who can pick things up in a short period (30 mins.), But if a student requires assistance or some one-on-one learning, go elsewhere. Again, principal volta is all talk, no action! Staff could care less about your child and their progress.

This is a high school with wonderful parent involvement and some wonderful administrators and teachers. I like how they have academic buildings that your child stays with for 4 years. The academic program is very diverse and growing each year. I have been very happy with the school. My son is a quieter young man and has made many great friends. There has been no harrassment or problems with troubled students. My son is a senior and has had a great experience.

This is my son's first year at freedom and from what I have seen it seems to be a pretty good place if you want to learn...however if your child is having a difficult time with the transmission from jr. high to high school you better stay on top of it all or he/she may get lost in the shuffle.

We are new to this area however, to date I feel more confident that my childs best interest is very much important. I wish that they had some way to control the speeding of young and old drivers on Neroly as well as installing walkways for the children to walk to and from home.

Freedom High School has a great teaching system. I have two children at Freedom High School. My oldest was a 'D' student in Algebra 1 at Carquinez Middle School in Crockett. When she began to attend Freedom High School in 9th grade she became one of the top students in her Algebra class. She is now a sophmore and continues to hold on to progress in all of her studies, she is an 'A'-'B' student. My other child was also struggling and when he began school at Freedom High School this year as a Freshmen he also has progressed in all of his studies, he is an 'A'-'B'-'C' student. This school is truly one of the Great Schools.

Freedom High school is overall a good school. There is a somewhat strict dress code, people don't get away with wearing whatever they want (I do not agree with one of the comments above) and the campus staff does try to insure safety to the best of their abilities. The comment above about drag racing is also not true. Some kids do speed, but that doesn't mean that it happens all the time, and a lot of the kids that do it get in trouble. To help this problem, the school is currently thinking about ways to help insure the safety of their high school drivers. This school is not a bad one, every year we are somewhat improving on our test scores and more and more graduates are continuing on with a secondary education (College). Freedom offers certain amounts of scholarships for students to attend LMC (a community college).

I feel this school is more interested in the P.C. than the academia. My child will come home with a liberally based point of veiw that she got from the teacher as opposed to just being taught the subject.

I am a student at Freedom High School, and having attended high schools in Washington state, Antioch, CA, and San Jose, CA, I feel Freedom is a great school. At this school you have a better opportunity to make good choices for yourself. The staff is great, although there are a few... and you know who you are... that need to get the boot. I feel the principal is genuinely concerned with the students interests seeing as how he just helped me today get a major issue straightened out, and has many times in the past. Although the sports teams don't get the highest rankings, they still have a good program going and as far as education... it is easy to want to learn in the environment the school provides. Rarely do I feel stressed about school assignments or tests, and my teachers definately know what they are teaching.

This school is great! It's almost like it's imaginary in that all the students get along so well! I have heard this from many students and teachers here. Yes- there's the occasional fights, but the 'groups' blend in together more. For the most part the teachers are great, and I like that they teach german here. However, the best part of this school is the schedule! They have 4 classes a day- every other day- so that they get 1h20minutes in each class, and they dont have to go to each class everyday- so they are less burned out. I personally feel its a great school.

Academics at Freedom are good for UC admissions, there is a very diverse range of extracurricular activities, the administration, although, is over-reactive. They give students a very difficult time for minor offences. Dress code is over-restrictive, and the Principal is opressive. Freedom can be a better school with: * Longer passing periods * Advisory daily * Smaller class sizes * Change in administration

Freedom High is very diverse high school. In many ways it exceeds the expectations of a school from the interest and concern of teachers and staff members. I am delighted to have such an organized, and diligent school in my neighborhood.

The school is out of control. Violence and overcrowding is alarming. Dress code is non-existent. Girls are allowed to wear clothes that a street walker wears. Parking lot and streets around the school are for drag racing. Police and school authorities are useless. I do not recommend sending your student to this school.

I have had 2 students graduate from Freedom. Overall it seems to be a good school and my children were happy. The only complaint I do have is the teaching in math. I have spoken to other parents and they agree. Several of these have tutors for their students. When these students enter college they are having to take high school math again.
