My siblings and I attended a private Christian school as children and we loved the OVERALL environment. The small classes and the one-on-one and overall attentiveness of the teachers and staff. The values and morals instilled at OCS are simply incomparable and are so similar to what we were taught growing up with a Christian education and in a Christian home. Being kind, treating others with respect and how you wish to be treated, loving your fellow mates, praising God daily and every night, and always putting God 1st.
This school isn't just a school, it's a family. My niece has been here since kindergarten and just started 3rd grade and we couldn't have chosen a better "home" for her. The curriculum is unsurpassable. The kids rotate between their main teacher, language class, music, art and p.e. Their graduation percentage and college attendance is astounding. They teach the children to be honest, individual, creative thinkers. All things most schools don't offer until well AFTER elementary. They challenge the kids and they never feel defeated. They KNOW there is a next time & also are aware that they can't take that "next time" for granted.
The entire office staff are the most kind and beautiful hearted people I've ever encountered. They are kind, endearing, very engaging and simply a blessing to have them in my nieces life. You'd really have to step onto this campus to get the warm feeling I'm trying to convey to see for yourself. It really and TRULY is a home away from home for the kids. Thank God for OCS.
Not just ONE person but several... Mrs. See.. Thank you for getting my niece out of her shell and reaching her to be self-sufficient... Mrs. Huisken Thank you for being firm yet kind with my niece and showing her letting go in the morning is ok because she could hold your hand.. Mrs. Campbell thank you for pushing my niece to stop second-guessing herself and that she knows way more than she gives herself credit for.. Mrs Thacker thank you for being so hands-on and involved with your class even while on your leave assuring them you're always available to them... Ms. Patty, Ms. Amber and Ms. Tira thank you wonderful ladies for ALL the love and attention you give our FAMILY each time we see you. It makes me feel SO wonderful knowing my niece is in such blessed hands and hearts and Principal Wiersma.. Thank you for making ALL the kids feel seen and heard EVERY morning by calling them by name and blessing their day.
Each teacher has their own method of dealing with their children and from what I've seen over the past 3 years is that they each have an approach that works for them and teaches the kids different ways of viewing the same situation. The teachers are living and dating and very firm. It keeps the balance and the kids willingness to be attentive and learn.
The kids are taught to ALWAYS do their best and to know we ALL make mistakes. Every child wants to excel, so they are given motivators within their classroom environment. This keeps the kids determined and persistent.
These children are in a home away from home. They learn to care for one another Ina Christ line level. If a child falls, kids will flock to that injured child and assure them they are plans get them the assistance of any is needed without a second guess which shows they care. Their empathy towards one another is received through their understanding of "How would I feel?" or "WWJD". So they learn from understanding their own feelings & are able to pass that empathy on to their fellow mates.
It teaches the kids about consequences through Bible verses and what honesty means. It installs integrity by delivering unification expectation which build morale, teach respect and build positive character which turns into fairness of all children reciprocating these morals and values amongst one another.
My child started this school with very low self esteem. The teachers have helped her get acclimated. The students have reached out to her. I see huge improvements with her. The academics are good. The teachers got it together. This is a well organized school. I'm glad we are here.
