Finishing our 8th year at Edison with mostly good things to say. It's located in a great neighborhood, and everyone there, crossing guard/administrators/teachers/aides/custodians/lunch ladies, and all the volunteers, who put in countless hours for free, with no benefit to themselves) get nothing but my thanks and respect for all that they do. However, instead of complaining, suspecting, stating you wont get involved cause you can't get along with other adults, try being mature and go help, regardless of whatever insecurities you have that make you feel excluded. The principal, among many others, has done an excellent job transitioning this school from a regular corner school, to the districts GATE Academy. The quality of teachers, who've been trained and certified to continue on at Edison, is excellent. My kids get a first class education, which isn't easy to do with all the budget cuts and the large growth in student population. I look forward to our future years at this school, and from what I have heard of other schools, especially from parents that used to have kids in the other schools, Edison is the best. Now if we just had a bigger campus, life would be perfect.

Wow, you dislike pta, dont attend those events, wont bother voting and dont like the parents that have run pta. And who has the problem? Seems if you indeed cared, you would have attended pta meetings to see whats up or attended a school site council meeting or for that matter addressed your concerns during a coffee with the principal. Taking it to the district level without addressing it with the principal. Many love to complain but rarely do anything to change the situation. And for the record I am not on the board of pta/ssc/elac and this is my first year here. You get what you put in. I go to those meetings because I want to help and know whats going on. and yes I help in the classroom too. Im very involved in the district. If you would like to discuss things, I am available. I wont hide and be anonymous. I am Cindy Munoz and am at the school every day at 7:15, parked in front of the school. Let me know if you want to get some answers or better yet get involved.

I saw that form too. it was kinda confusing but I don"t want to get involved or help those pta moms. it"s like a club where you have to be in good with the principal and the teachers. I like to help my teacher but those girls get treated special even though lot"s of us help the school. I won"t vote and I know other moms who don"t help them or go to the events they plan. I agree that unless new people are on that board then why bother. If you think something shady is up. you should check it out at the district. I will talk to my husband too. he"s not going to like that and problably will get mad about it. our school is not very friendly to everyone. Who cares about PFO if the same moms are running it. it won"t do any good complaining the principal is friends with the pta moms.

I joined the committee for the Fall Festival and technically it was organized and run by the PTA while the Principal had the craft fair in the quad. As for the desserts, well that was the ELAC parents not the PTA (wish people would get their facts straight before sharing their opinions). Our family had a wonderful time at the festival and we hope that they do it again next year. For it being their first one I think the PTA did a wonderful job. Also, I like how they ve done different things at different locations, not just Chick-fil-A like previous years. I have never really been involved as I work full time but have enjoyed getting to know the ladies. It would be great if more parents got involved. Now most importantly what this site is for, I have noticed a positive change in my child s education this year. She seems to be more excited to learn than ever before. While I ve always liked the teachers, the upper grade teachers are amazing! I hope the school continues to improve next year too.

Went to our first event at this school. Saturday they had a fall festival. The principal did a great Jon organizing this event! There was games for all kids! all ages! The pta put some good food together but their chocolate cake and desserts weren't good at all. The principle had the right idea with the carnival. She had a lot of game booth. The only negative thing is I hardly saw any teachers there. You would think the principal would make it mandatory. We might want to support them more if they did I mean its there school to. Had a great time! Hope they do it again next year.

Edison is an outstanding academy and I'm fortunate that my children are in such a wonderful learning environment. I take great pride in the fact that the Principal, the educators and the parents I work with trust and respect me. I appreciate the parents' concern in regards to the handling of the monies I received this morning and due to the fact that you do not know me, allow me to inform you that any money I accept on behalf of PTA is always and without failure handed over to either the PTA president or the treasurer. Parents are always given receipts. I do not however appreciate the manner in which this issue was brought to everyone's attention. It is irresponsible and unkind on your behalf to post this publicly. Please, should you have any grievances in the future, take proper recourse. I hope I have brought clarity to the matter. God Bless-Rosie Mota

I am a new family at Edison Academy and I am considering taking my child out of the PM Kindergarten class she is in, only to find out that there is a waiting list for the AM class in same class.I talk to parents in the morning classes on Tuesday's and each Tuesday I get more fusterated with the quality of education my daughter is recieving. I don't know a whole lot about the teachers at the school but I clearly see that my childs teacher does not meet the standard. She doesn't even seem interested in the morning opening songs to engage her class. She depends on the other nice teacher to do those extra things with the class. Like the parent said below..nice is one thing but getting the job done is another. Where and when does the principal step and notice these things? I've never seen nor heard of a Kindergarten teacher teaching the class from her chair. As ridiculous as thatsounds it happens daily.

Edison is a great school. The teachers and the staff are great people. I've never had any problems. I really miss Mrs. Parker.

As for the staff, I ve seen many come and go and can honestly say I agree with the post about people not accepting change. Whether you agree with every decision in the end it s about educating your children and giving them every opportunity available which as a parent should be among your highest priority, along with keeping the safe and healthy. The school is only doing what they can to make sure every child has the best education possible. Think about what the staff and PTA do for the school. How many students they care for and how many hours they put in to support Edison families. Keep in mind it stretches from teachers, administrators, aides, custodians, office staff, and yes even to the PTA to keep the school running,

While this is a forum for opinion, it isn t a place to attack people. Let me start by saying that I have been a parent and PTA member at Edison for over 10 years and I work at a school so I ve seen many a lot of things over the years. As for the PTA, I have in past years seen what people have referred to as a click . However, this year I noticed a shift, new activities/events, and openness unlike before. Although I can t attend all PTA functions I know that these parents work hard to support the staff and OUR children. I know enough about the PTA to know that they can be limited on what they can spend funds on. If you had a 6th grader and spoke with your teacher you d know that they ultimately have the final say on what the class party will be and when my child was leaving what was then 5th grade it was the parents that worked with the PTA to do something extra for the students. Please remember it is all VOLUNTEER and unless you re willing to do what they do you shouldn t really bad mouth them, especially if you don t know the ins and outs of the PTA.
