I loved this school! The friends that I made there are still my friends today! Not to many people can say that the people they met in kindergarten are still close to them today! I loved school as a young child and loved all my years through high school! The teachers there wonderful (some are better than others) but all in all they do there best to help you succeed! I graduated with a 3.8 GPA and went on to a 4 year university and never felt like I was academically behind. I graduated from college with a 3.6 GPA! I think OC does a good job at developing the basics of reading, writing, and math. There teaching styles may be a little old fashioned (at least when I was there) but what is wrong with going back to way schools used to run..none of this No Kid Left Behind nonsense. If you don't know the basics how can you advance to learning the more complicated stuff? I believe education is a team effort between teachers and parents, this is the same belief I have with raising christian leaders, it takes a team to raise a good christian leader it takes the church, parents and as many christian role models as possible! OC has many wonderful role models for your children to be surrounded by!
I am a student at OCHS and have been a student since middle school. The Middle school campus was the best and alot of fun, however, the high school is not satisfactory, and that is being generous. The kids have no bounderies or discipline and the teachers do not have a good enough understanding of the curriculum that they are teaching. They are very young teachers and even the students have crushes on their teachers because they are so friendly. The highschoolers are not welcoming and are very superficial and fake, claiming to be Christians when their actions say otherwise. Sex, drugs, and drinking alcohol are just a few of the things these kids are involved in. The teachers cannot control their students and classroom environment, but contribute to the chaos. If you are trying to figure out where to send your kid for highschool, any public school would be better than OCHS. OC claims to be a Christian school, but does not actually have Christian principles.
Our older daughter has done well and is now a Soph. We do regard the Christian Values as a huge priority. However, my two younger sons have had a different experience. We've had problems with new teachers not controlling the classroom and Pre-K and Kinder teachers not preparing our kids for 1st grade and beyond. Example, six weeks before school was over the Pre-K teacher said our son should stay back. This after saying all year he was doing fine. We now pay for private tutoring and private school. Unfortunately, you don't know how your child is doing until it's too late. I am seriously considering transferring them to charter school to get caught up. I am a Christian, not a teacher. Values I can teach, math, science not so much.
We have enjoyed being a part of ontario Christian Elementary and homeschool program. I love the school grounds, and we felt very safe there. The office staff is great with the children and with their concerns. The administrative staff were attentive to my needs as well. OC has a strong Christian foundation which is a priority for my family. Academically, it's not their strong point. Although, OC does offer, spanish, computers, p.e., art, and they have a well stocked library for the kids to enjoy. If it's a Christian environment you seek, then you have found the right place.
This school is a wonderful school, and I feel better knowing that my child is in the hands of people that are working very hardt o create strong Christian leaders. I believe that we as parents are responsible for being a part of the culture and atmosphere, of the schools our children attend. OC does a wonderful job of inviting my husband and I in, and helping us to feel like part of a community. My child has blossomed and seem to be shining brighter every day.
These rating sites are an easy place to vent for people who have had a bad experience. No school is perfect, but I hear nothing but good things about Ontario Christian. Even in a recession, parents are working hard to make the necessary financial sacrifices to send their kids here. Although the ethnic information says 61% white, that is from 3-4 years ago. It is now over 50% ethnic minority. The school represents students from more than 250 different churches. The tie that binds the school together is an undying commitment from parents, teachers, board and administrators to their theme of Growing Christian Leaders. It is getting attention from around the country (and even around the world) as being a leader among Christian schools. Before you believe only the negative reviews (again, admittedly, no school is perfect), check the place out for yourself! Fine arts, technology, curriculum, sports, integration of faith...they have the whole package!
I'm telling you, it is true! Ontario Christian is far behind public school. No way would a public school child be behind at OC, unless they came from a horrible school district. Compared to any public school on "great schools" with a rating of 6 or higher, OC is far far behind. Sad to say, but even with CA schools having so many budget cuts. Most schools in good areas still offer PE, computers art and in most cases music. Seriously, with the money you would save not going to OC, you could put your child in private music classes, private computer classes and even get private lesson for a second language, and still have money left over. You would be better off moving to a good school district than wasting your money at OC.
This school is fantastic. My daughter has grown academically and spiritually. I'm not sure why someone says they are behind, the public school kids that transfer here are the ones who are behind. Ontario Christian uses public school curriculum (well, not for Bible!) and are on track. The students also have music, art, PE, etc. It is a great school with caring teachers and staff and the families are all very nice. I highly recommend it.
What a waste of money and my child's year. I thought by investing in a private school my child would not only be learning Christian values but have a excellent education. None of that is true! My child was behind when starting public school and we would have never known that because on track my OC standards. Not to mention we never felt the warm Christian atmosphere. The parents and teachers were cold and uncaring. Save your money and better your child's education by going somewhere else.
OC has given my son the most memorable times since Kindergarten. He will be graduating 8th grade. Staff sincerely cares.
