The counseling staff leaves a lot to be desired... My daughter was a transfer student from another school in San Diego County and you would have thought she was coming from another country. Since CIHS did not currently have some of the classes she took, they completely discounted them and dropped them to a lower "equivalent." I had to fight to get them rated correctly on her transcript. Thank god for the SLO. I have very little good to say about this school and am thankful that I will not have t send my son here. A good thing about the school? Some of the teachers my daughter has are challenging and caring individuals. So I guess that perhaps my issues are with the administration and counselors.
the school is so kind and helpful. there is a great support system and you are always helped out.
I am an alumni, and all I have is positive feed back. You don't stand alone here, you can go to anyone for help and you won't get bored there is plenty to do from academics to extracurricular activities.
this school may not have the highest test scores, the best athletics, or the best reputation, but what it does have is spirit. I believe that this is the key to success.
This is the best school ever!! I am a sophomore and the teachers are so kind and cool!
This school is the best! there's many opportunities and clubs and many activities.
Channel Islands High School is providing and has provided my kids with a great education. My daughter has gone on to Harvard and I have C.I. to thank. In the four years my daughter attended, she was exposed to tough, tough classes and caring teachers who, both, pushed and supported her. I also am thankful the district hired a new principal. Dr. Valles has been the savior of Channel Islands High. I look forward to what is to come.
teachers are really nice and like to help us students and help if help is needed.
Channel Islands High School has changed my life in many great ways. I have made many new friends that I will never forget! And the teachers have helped me whenever I had a problem, whether it was about the homework or a personal problem. The teachers' participation in multiple activities makes CI a wonderful school. Not to mention the variety of squads (like All-Male, Co-Ed, Drill, and Band, just to name a few) who have succeeded in winning competitions all around California. And our new principal, Dr. Rocky Valles, has supported both the teachers and the students 100% of the way by making new additions to existing facilities, including the bleachers of the football field, gym, and cafeteria. I'm glad I go to Channel Islands. I wouldn't want to go anywhere else.
I have taught for more than ten years at the junior high, high school and college level and can honestly say that our school has one of the most friendly, supportive and caring campuses ever. Our students are polite and respectful. They are also very conscientious people as evidenced by the generous amount of money that our school (a Title I school, mind you) has raised for such programs as Invisible Children and Pennys for Patients. We have outstanding and award-winning athletes and perfomers as seen in our dance squads, banners, bands, soccer team, and academic decathlon, to mention but a few. I am proud to work alongside such dedicated teachers who strive to teach and reach every student in a multitude of ways. Channel Islands is a great school, and I'm glad to be here.
I am an alumni of this school and send my child there. I found that the school 's facilities have vastly improved from when I went there. New cafeteria, outstanding student government, the caring passionate teachers along with the first rate the spirt wear; make you proud to be part of the 'Raiders' family. The school academics and the commitment to excellece is second to none. My child loves this school!
I have taught for nearly 30 years at 12 different schools, public and private, and in my wide and varied experience, CI is the friendliest and most accepting campus ever. The student body is kind, generous and well-behaved. The staff and administration friendly, supportive and professional. I chose to be here over all my other options, and I am definitely pleased and encouraged by the caliber and quality of the youth, the teachers and the parents. I can't say enough about the supportiveness of our parents in this community. Every year the API scores at CI go UP and UP. Those of us who teach here, administer, support and attend here are very fortunate.
The academic rigor depends on the classes you have and the amount of parental involvement. Some teachers, are here for a pension, while many teachers are idealistic and do what they can with what they are given (students). APATHY among students is a huge problem from my experiences. A few staff members are separatists, victocrats, poor students the world is against you and such. These teachers are held in high regard by the district even though they are indoctrinating students at their cost. OVerall, the school is on the up and up, and we have a principal that is here to rally the troops.
Quite honestly, the academic rigor of this institution is futile. In general, the teachers care very little for the students. In hindsight. this is most likely attributed to the lack of concern triangulated among parents, teachers, and students. In my perspective, they're all simply crossing their fingers and hoping the school remains active and not subjected to a government reform. In addition, the aura of the student body particularly encourages gang affiliation, drug abuse, and apathetic sentiments towards education. Rarely are students actually pushed to their potential and consequently, in comparison, very few actually make it to the next step of attending a four-year university. Do yourself a favor, send your child to another school in the district, their future relies on it.
My opinion as an alumnus: gangs, illegals everywhere, low academic standards. Fortunately for most, it doesn't take much to graduate. I ditched biology class 49 times in one semester and still passed!
This school is filled with great teachers and great extracurricular activities. It has sports and dance teams that are amazing to watch.
Channel Islands (CIHS) is by far one of the best schools I've seen around. Yes, it may be older than the newer schools (Pacifica and Oxnard) but it provides a diverse background that keeps the atmosphere fresh. The students for the most part are friendly and spirited, and it's the kind of people you'd want to be around. The squads here are well known, and there are many. This includes: All-Male Dance, All-Female Dance, Co-Ed Dance, Banners, Short Flags, Drill Team, and Drumline. The ASB is also very great, and they put on the best rallies in the district and county.
I completely disagree! CI is an awesome school. The academics are okay like all other public high schools (deficiently low), great extracurricular activities, and I've met lots of friends. CI is not poorly secured. Other high schools are poorly secured too, But you just don't notice it as much. It's a great school and you can accomplish much if you work hard, but if you just lay back, well of course you're gonna flunk! But overall, I love the school and it is just awesome!
