This is a small but not too small school. Has more yard equipment than almost any other school. The teachers are usually great. Parents are really involved in making this school a great school. Very clean and classrooms are not that crowded. You will be amazed if you go to this school!

My children have attended Palisades Elementary since kindergarten and overall their experience has been excellent. While there are some bumps in the road caused by LAUSD hiccups, the charter process, caring faculty, involved parents and a principal experienced with the bureaucratic district nonsense are extemely important and highly valued.

If you live in the Pacific Palisades (or want to Lottery in) and you have your concerns/doubts about Public School/LAUSD, yes it's a "system" but with the superb leadership of "both" the dynamo and truly caring Principal, plus the passionately involved and seriously committed, hard working parents this LAUSD Elementary is a "Gem"! Academically, it's seriously comparable to (and in some case(s), beats) local privates. Consider saving your money for middle or high schools, or most of all, college. A well run, relatively small, historic treasure that has an "authentic" connecting school community.

Pali Elementary is a great school... the administration, office staff and all the teachers really seem to care about our children. Each child is considered for their unique personality and talents. There is no "box" your child is put into...it is a friendly and inviting environment . Highly recommend the school!

The school is fantastic. The teachers are academically strong and extremely caring. My daughter is doing very well academically, she is happy and she is receiving a wonderful, well-rounded experience. A real part of the community (it seems we are saying hello to fellow parents and kids everywhere we go in the neighborhood)! We love Pali Elementary!!

This is an above average school with a very strong community behind it. I think sometimes the enthusiasm of that community can prevent parents from seeing some of the flaws in the school. The principal is not very innovative nor particularly bright and that seems to have stalled the curriculum. Instruction is frankly dull and uninspiring. The kids are learning the material, but there isn't much joy or enthusiasm around the work. The better teachers here transcend this by going off-book, but some of the teachers, in particular in 4th and 5th grade, are taking the easy approach and doing really dull units. I felt sorry for my daughter when I saw the assignments and projects she was doing in 5th grade. This is a good school, no doubt, but it could be a great school with a little more creativity

Palisades Charter Elementary School is exactly what we all wish a school should be. The administration is devoted to making the best of resources and involving the community. The teachers are devoted to their profession and helping the children. The student body is a real slice of life, an excellent social environment to accustom and prepare the children for real life. The support of the parent's group makes up for LAUSD funding problems by providing wonderful art, music, and athletic activities. All put together, the attitude of the administrators, teachers, pupils, and parents is strong and extremely supporting.

Set in the lovely village of Pacific Palisades, Pali Elementary presents the perfect balance of a private school like hands on approach in a public school experience. As a Charter school, it's parent involvement is unparalleled. As an educational experience, the academic level of its teachers is of the highest quality. Led by its dynamic principal, Mrs. Joan Ingle, Pali Elementary presents a rigorous approach to education with a full fledged extra curricular offering of sports, arts and Star Program activities. Class sizes are appropriately small and diversity is evident in every aspect of the school experience.

We have not had a good experience at this school. My last review -- although I don't think it was inappropriate -- was taken down. Palisades Elementary School is truly a rare gem. We have a wonderful principal who participates in all school activities and meetings. We have excellent teachers who really do care about each and every student. Our computer lab and technology program is stellar, a brand new computer network where each student has their own account has just been installed. Our library has been newly renovated and 6 more computers have been added. The parents are incredibly proactive in every aspect of the school on a daily basis. Private funding/parent donations account for many of the additional programs you only see at elite schools such as Technology, Music, Drama, Karate, and more. The neighborhood is very safe and has a warm, tight-knit community feel.

Palisades Charter is a great school! I love the fact that it is small and has great teachers who really care about the students. Our principal, even stands out front every morning and says good morning to each student by name. The parents are really involved with their time and money, which makes Pali a public school with all the private school extras. It has art programs, computer lab, music, PE, a science garden for each class, an extensive library and so many other things that LAUSD schools do not have anymore. We feel so lucky that Pali is our neighborhood school. In such a large school system, Pali Elementary is a true gem. - Julie Sorotsky

A wonderful and loving enviorment. The music and art programs are strong, on par if not better than the local private schools. PE is only twice a week, but the kids have ample time to run and play. The school incorporates the tribes program into the playground and classroom experience. Academics could be stronger, although the school scores extremely high in the API. The level of parent involvement is very high and keeps this jewel of a school running seamlessly. We have Yee Haw Day (a cowboy carnival) followed by a school play, walkathons, Olympic Days etc.. A perfect neighborhood school.

Palisades Elementary is one of the premier elementary schools in Los Angeles. Physical Education, music, drama, art, library, and computer lab are part of the curriculum. The parent body is active and insistent that the extras go hand in had with the academics. The fifth grade teachers are superb and prepare children for middle school with their emphasis on writing, logic, problem solving, math and science. If you're interested in a quality education where children actually have to work for a grade, this school would be a good choice. There's a new principal who's enthusiastic and supportative of the teachers, students, and parents. It's a wonderful pleasant environment and a great place to be.

My son is a kindergartener at Pali, and we couldn't be happier. The parent involvement at the school is spectacular; fundraising is constant so the school offers even its kindergarteners weekly music, physical education, computer and library classes, all with specialized instructors. The school has great spirit too. Each Monday the school has an assembly where everybody recites the flag salute, student body and PTA announcements are made, and by the end of the year, every student in the school becomes the 'Spotlight Student of the Month' so all feel part of the school. The principal is new, but she is wonderful. She greets all parents at the entry of the school each morning and stands at the gate as each student leaves to say 'Have a nice day!'. This school has all of the features of a private school, including outstanding test scores!

Profile Completeness

ADVANCED

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
