Waldorf is a beautiful education !! HOWEVER Westside Waldorf fails at making the beauty in the education a reality. I used to attend this school, but ended up leaving due to unsafe classroom conditions, and also because of the corruptness of the governing council, Specifically one person on the council, let's name her Pisa Lrofumo ... She is a power hungry lady who controls everything, and has got WSW wrapped around her little fingers. The school used to be a warm, friendly and safe school and I can assure you that this is most definitely not the case since she came into power. I would not recommend this school....
Horrific School. When the administrator retired so did the school's integrity, checks and balances, and anthroposophic support of the our children. The power greedy new teacher and administrator Alessandra Profumo fabricated year-end reports and failed her students academically. Don't waste your time, money, and children's formative years.
The review below (Oct 23, 2913) was written ivy the school in defense of a prior bad review submitted by a parent. Westside Waldiorf School has gone way down hill especially after they brought in (shipuffked from other waldorf school) a specific waldorf teacher /governing board member. Better to look elsewhere. We were former parents at this school for many years.
Westside Waldorf School is a nurturing and rigorous environment in which children are engaged through "head, heart and hands." Waldorf is known for its unique approach to developmentally-appropriate curriculum, which takes children through many different cultures and eras. The curriculum is extremely rich in multi-lingual development and currently offers both Japanese and Spanish language classes; its art and music programs are well-known the world over. Waldorf was started in Germany before WWII and has spread to nearly every country in the world, with legendary schools in England, Manhattan and up north in Sacramento. It is an international community of teachers and educators with it's own national and international accreditation parameters. By 4th grade, children at the public Waldorf School (Ocean Charter), score in the top 5% of CA state tests for reading. I am myself a Waldorf graduate who attended Northwestern University and have a son who has attended for 4 years. The teachers are without peer, caring and innovative, considering all pathways to learning and conventional as well as "anthroposophic" pedagogy. You must visit the school and meet the people there.
This Waldorf school is known for being a good place for children with learning disabilities, autism, and emotional or behavioral issues, as most Waldorf schools specialize in catering to those children who do not fit into traditional educational settings. However, the Westside Waldorf failed our family by not providing enough support for our child who has mild Aspergers. Our child was taunted by both children and teachers. The best thing we ever did was remove our child from this bizarre school setting.
