They do the best they can with their meager budget. Many teachers are good and try very hard. The parents do extraordinary fundraising and volunteering, but the seriously low per student funding and certain state requirements stifle innovation. No way to integrate the supposed arts focus with the core curriculum. If you are a parent of a child who "learns differently", this is probably not the school for you. The MO is to teach to the average student, supplement via the parents as much as they can be leaned on, and then say that the students "will be fine." "Will be fine" at what? Folding sweaters at the Gap? Appropriate special ed or accomodations are routinely discouraged or denied. GATE is non-existent. If your child needs both -- fat chance. This may be true in many schools in CA, not just Cabrillo's fault, but it's not the place to look if your child is on either side of average. 4th grade student-teacher ratio is 32:1. Some parents can be a bit cliquey, an attitude which is handed down through the kids, especially the girls.
