Golden Poppy is the greatest school to be! My daughter looks forward to going to school every day. She has made new friends and is so proud of her beautiful new campus. I as a parent am pleased with the teachers and staff. We have a great community working together to make our school the best in the AV!

This is my second year as Principal of Golden Poppy Elementary and I cannot say enough good things about students, staff, and parents we have here. For the second year in a row our test scores have increased along with our parent participation and PTA. I look forward to this year as we continue to implement a model that demands high levels of learning for all students!

The principal at this school is one of the best ever! Golden Poppy is phenomenal! I absolutely love this school. This school has changed my son's life. He was struggling really bad with school. He couldn't read or anything at all, I almost gave up hope. He attended Joshua Hills before Golden Poppy. Joshua Hills never helped him and was sending him to 3rd grade on a Kindergarten level. Once he attended Golden Poppy, the principal immediately placed him in the class he needed to be in, he was also placed in tutoring and interventions. Mrs.Berry and other teachers took out time to personally come up with a plan for him and to help him the best way they can. My kids have no complaints. I am now here to say that my son has improved over 80%. He is now reading, and he has confidence. He said "Mom I love Golden Poppy so much, my teachers have really helped me and I can read now"! I cried. I am so grateful for the principal Mr.Beardsley, Mrs.Berry, Ms.Noble, and for everyone there who has helped my kids. Thank you guys for going above and beyond for my son as well as other kids :-)

This is the worst school in the Av. My sons have been attending school here since kindergarten. They are now in 6th and 3rd grade. There are constant fights, lack of supervision on the playground, teachers who talk on their cell phones during class time. There are no extracurricular activities. Principal only cares about students showing up and getting her money for them.

My daughter has been attending this school since November. She just started school and is in Kindergarten at Golden Poppy! She has a Rare Disorder and the School had been good in their concerns for her health. The facility is clean and nice and we love the class size.

I believe this school is one of the best elementary schools in East Palmdale. My son was in Mr. Nelson's Kindergarten class and did exceptionally well including the ability to read through the Rainbow program that Mr. Nelson introduced. I am excited that my son has been offered an opportunity to move into there GATE program now and my little girl will also be starting Kindergarten this 2009-2010 year in Mr. Nelson's fabulous class. So far, it s proven to me a good school for a very active and involved parent!

If find the school is more interested in 'getting through the material' than actually educating the children. If your child struggles, do not expect this school to help, unless you are prepared to forcefully make your self heard.

Although there are very limited opportunities for extracurricular activities at this time I do know it is something the school is hoping to improve on. Looking forward to seeing that happen this coming school year.

I totally agree with the comments from the parent of March 3oth. My daughter attended private school until last school year 2002/2003, coming from a private school where the communication between Parents, administration and teachers was above average. This schools change teachers like they change underware. I can't understand why there is a budget problem seeing that there only home owners is the area, so the question is where is the property taxes going. One mnore item where is the school calendar? I feel the curriculum is to easy.

Their API scores dropped from last year and things don't look so good so far this year. Part of the problem is related to District problems (funding, poor management, etc.. Things may improve after moving to the new site in 2004-2005, however, the teachers will be the same and I have noted lack of discipline, consistency and upholding to the CA standards in the 4 classrooms my children currently attend.

I have visited this school and I was disapointed with what I saw. Nobody seems to know what is going on. I understand there is a new principal, but I don't think that should be a reason for havoc. Please, do something about or let people know the real situation of the school, so we parents may help.

It seems since this is a temporary site for the school there is very little communication between teachers and adminstration and little involvement of family or family time. Could be because of budget!??

Profile Completeness

Want to improve this school's profile?

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
