im a 6th grader and i have been going to summerwindsince 1st grade and i think it is realy cool but the teachers can be realy mean sometimes but most of the time they are nice and the school rules are realy strict but realy summerwind is a good school but i think the school needs to be a bit nicer MR.Lopez is nice but Mr.william can make kids cry a lot so i think Mr.William should be nicer and the cafateria food is cross i think they need to give us better food and give us our playground back..

This is probably the worst school my kids have ever attended. We moved to the area the end of 2012 when my husband left the Marine Corps. From the start, the people at the school district were not very helpful. My kids attended for a couple of months and then I found out I was expecting and was put on bed rest. I told the school numerous times that I was placed on bedrest and didn't have anyone to help me take and pic up my kids from school. No one helped. Pam at the front office was no help at all. I finally called the district and spoke to the director of student services who put my kids on independent study. I recently got a notice from the school saying my oldest is a habitual truant..obviously communication is not something the school is great with, especially when every week my kids homework is dropped off and they get their new homework for the week. I also have requested my son's first grade teacher Mrs. Feehan to call me numerous times, and she has failed to do so! There is no communication between teachers and parents unless your child is absent (I wonder if it's really because they loose out on funding for each absent student). WORSE SCHOOL EVER!

I THINK SUMMERWIND IS A GREAT SCHOOL !! FOR ANY KID THAT WANTS TO JOIN THE AVID PROGRAM THE TEACHERS ARE WOUNDERFUL THE STAFF IS VERY NICE MY CHILDREN HAVE BEEN ATTENDING THIS SCHOOL FOR THE LAST 3YEARS AND THEY ARE HAPPY THERE!!!! SUMMERWIND HAS HIGHEST CST SCORES IN PALMDALE SCHOOL DISTRICT..... AS A PARENT OF THIS SCHOOL I THINK IT IS A GREAT PLACE FOR ANY CHILD IT BETTER THEN PUTTING THEM IN THE EAST SIDE !!!!!

Academically this is a great school, it could be better if there were more teachers like Mrs. Fox, Mrs. Pace, Mrs. Feehan, Perry, Eckmann, Carey & McGuiness. The Vice Principal is a disciplinarian but also very loving with the kids and kids respect him and love him alot, he is great with the kids and we are very pleased to have someone like him in the school. I have no complains with their staff. My only 2 complains: 1) is the effort that parent put on their kids. I volunteer in classrooms and it is amazing how behind some kids falling and weeks of homework not return. Summerwind has a small PTA group but they are very united. 2)The school has no or very little playground but to my understanding their PTA is working on funding a new playground for the kids which it says alot about their dedication to the kids, they are a small group and parents are not involved with their child's school, so those ladies have a tough road ahead.

Summerwind really tries its best. The problem they have is two-fold. 1) As with most public schools today, they as overcrowded and underfunded. 2) A large percentage of their students/parents lack preparation/motivation or both. As a classroom volunteer, I see firsthand many students who come to school without knowing the very basic essentials that they need for learning (ie: knowing ABCs and counting to 10). These same students are the ones that bring back seemingly untouched homework packets week after week. My son has been very lucky to have loving, dedicated teachers here (Mr Sinclair in K and Mrs Wynkoop in first). But they are only one person and often most of their energy and attention is spent on the failing stundents whose parents are unwilling to put in the time. So ultimately, it is the prepared students (and their own) and the school as a whole who suffer for the negligence of these parents.

I'm sure Summerwind isn't the worst school in the Palmdale School District however, if there were more caring, loving teachers like Ms. Pace there it would be so much better. Summerwind needs to consider more learning strategies for children with learnind disabilities.

we have recently moved here from Glendale, ca. Our son went to westside union school district but never really attended the elementary schools in the A.V. school doesn't have weekly library visit as my daughter did in the Glendale school. Mrs. Perkins is great.

My child was in Mr. Eiseman's class last year. He was the best teacher my child has had. I will put the rest of my children in his class when they get into 5th grade. I can tell he really cares about the children, and that education is his top priority. Despite having a few surgeries during the year, he was always there for my child. Thanks

This school has become a disgrace on all of the Palmdale school district. At times its actually ok but you let the school be tagged then you wont paint over all of it! Parents, Teachers, and Principals need to work harder to make this school great. My child is in 6th grade and she cant wait to leave. There are some nice thoughtful teachers there like Mrs. Grove, Mrs. Eckmann, and Mrs. Perry. Also Mrs. Eisengmanger (sorry I cant spell your name dear) Ms. Dashti and many many more

I have to say the teachers are who make Summerwind a good school. Even though it is in the Palmdale school district. The administration has their own political agenda, in my opinion. So thanks to all you teachers for going the extra mile for our kids.

About the tests


In 2012-2013 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.
