Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

My daughter has been attending this school since pre-k and is now going to enter into the 3rd Grade. We love the school and my daughter has learned and has grown so much academically in the years she has attended Willard. She had the pleasure of being in Mrs. Soto's 2nd grade this past year, and words can not express what an excellent teacher Ms. Soto is. I can not speak more highly of this teacher. She has set the bar very high. I have no doubt that the years we have remaining at Willard will be met with the same level of care and attention to my child.

Willard is a great school with a wonderful staff and administration. Dr. DeBose is attentive to students and parents, and makes herself accessible to talk with parents about any of their concerns. As previously stated, there have been some issues with a few teachers who do not adequately teach the IB curriculum, but there are more great educators at Willard who go above and beyond to teach our children. My family is very happy with the school...can't say the same for the State's allocation of funding to public schools, but that is an entirely different discussion.

Willard IB creates true life long learners and leaders of tomorrow. I am a parent and former teacher of Willard. The IB philosophy is about students making connections to what they're learning to their own lives. This gives students ownership into their education. Education is not about imparting knowledge from teacher to student - that's what the internet is for. It's about making meaning and taking action with your knowledge. This school is different because of its IB philosophy, its international perspective, the mission of creating globally reponsible citizens. This is what our world needs - problem solvers, solving real world problems, real leaders for tomorrow.

Willard-IB is a wonderful school and we couldn't be happier with our decision to send our two kids here. A great Principal in Dr. Debose, great teachers, active parent participation, the IB-PYP programme and lots of happy and well behaved kids - that's Willard. It has so many wonderful things going on - thanks to the IB-PYP Programme. In addition to having a strong academic focus, students in each grade get to work on some fun projects. Creating and presenting models of the Mars Rover, Animal Habitats, Weather dioramas, Simple machines, Digestive System, Community Models, Creating businesses, World famous monuments - these are just a few examples of some of the excellent learning that go on at the school. K-5 also get an hour each of computer lab, library, Spanish lessons and Instrumental Music lessons (1st - 5th) every week, which is rare to find in any of the other local area public schools. The school also has a running club, PE program and a STEM club run by the PTA. My kids have a great time at school every day and are also getting an excellent education. We couldn't be happier!

This is a great school, they are doing the best with what have and they can. I have never seen a principal like Dr.Bose, she greets in person most of the kids in the school on daily basis, she is a very good role model! She tells kids every day how important for each kid to respect other kid and being empathetic at each other. They are trying hard to raise the school rating to 9. The more funding they can get from the govt and the families it will benefit the school. My son went to a private preschool. He likes Willard's better as the teachers are awesome.

I have a fifth grader in this school. While the school has a lot going against it, the majority of the teachers are really good! I've seen a few bad apples, but not many. The daughter loves it and is doing very well. She's constantly challenged. The principal is very professional and cares about the kids. She has an incredible memory for their names! Parent participation needs to improve, but the socioeconomics limit the number of parents who have enough spare time to help.

Attend an Open House before deciding. Quite a few of these exceptional reviews are over four years old. In essence, Willard is a school that is doing its best with what it has. It has quite a bit working against it, such as state wide budget cuts, a city that refuses to adequately fund its school district, and a teachers' union with an iron-grip. The building is dingy and, with the exception of one large patch of grass, the complex embodies the term, "asphalt jungle." (My husband's and my private nickname for Willard is "The Gulag.") Most of the teachers are great, but there are a few treading water and biding time until retirement. Do whatever research you can before you allow them to assign your child to a particular teacher. Good news is the bad apples are hard to miss. As for the principal, Dr DeBose is quite professional and obviously cares about the students. In so many ways her hands are tied because of all the factors Willard is up against. Parental involvement is an absolute necessity for the school to achieve its goals. I only gave it 4 stars because the parent programs are often haphazardly organized and the "homeroom parents" aren't held to any standards.

Willard is truly a school that is well supported by it's community: teachers, administration, staff, parents and others all provide a broad and strong level of support. The international aspect of the IB program provides a wonderful basis for a child's education. My son is thriving at Willard and loving it!

Willard offers the elementary school version of the IB program, which essentially helps each child develop into an individual that is in tune with the world around them-a citizen of the world. From observing classes and programs offered throughout the year, it is clear that the learning experience is focused but fun. The level of parental involvement is very high and speaks well of the Principal and her staff. Willard is a school that every parent in the PUSD should look into and visit during the school year to see the IB program in operation. You will not be disappointed.

Willard is a thriving, successful school community because of its stellar teaching staff and administration and its dedicated, supportive parents. The IB program encourages teachers and students to think outside of their classrooms, beyond their community! Willard is a wonderful school!

We've been at Willard for 4 years now, and our children have really thrived. We've had excellent teachers who are able to give our kids what they need. They've provided advanced reader circles for them and gone above and beyond the curriculum when necessary.

We have been part of the Willard family for over 6 years now. Our family's experience with the school and staff has always been professional. The teachers have all been excellent, going above and beyond what is expected of them to optimize the students' learning and social/emotional experiences. The diversity of the student population as well as the inquiry based and global perspective of the IB curriculum have made this school a true gem within our community.

My daughter is now in 3rd grade here, and we are thoroughly enjoying both her time and ours at this school. All the teachers & staff that I have gotten to know are stellar examples of their craft - they are incredibly imaginative, creative and have high expectations of their students. They mentor each child according to his/her strengths and struggles, and help provide an excellent social atmosphere that nurtures both the kids' brains and their sensibilities. The curricula are well-balanced for arts, math, science, social studies, languages (all kids are taught Spanish, and ESL kids are immersed in English) and technology, with elective classes mixed in (3rd-5th gr) where kids may follow their own favorite pursuits. All subgroups at this school are expected to excel, and they do. The IB program is integral to the school's approach to learning. Kids learn from the first that they are citizens of the world, and are encouraged to always consider how they can support each other, their school. their community, town, state, country and world, in all areas, including treading lightly on the planet's environment. There is a strong PTA, a parent-teacher Green Team (overseeing environmental, beautification & recycling concerns), Student Council, an ELAC group, School Site Council and an Annual Fund committee - all strong presences on campus. There are several good after-school programs that offer varying levels of homework help, playtime, and social & team activities (not to mention helping parents who need a safe place for their kids to stay until after work). There are lots of fun communal events that take place during the school year where everyone may mingle and learn about different subjects, buy books, take action, or just enjoy a hotdog and a movie! Our families and community partners support and interact with the school to enhance the daily programs. My overall impression is of a big diverse family of people coming together, where everyone gets to know everyone else, and each person involved with the school contributes what they can in the way of skills, materials, knowledge, and especially enthusiasm towards making it a great place to be.

I did very extensive research before signing up my kid at Willard Elementary school. I established my own statistical database to make a more realistic decision to signup my child at a public school or a private school. Willard Elementary school came out very good. In order to observe and experience all aspects in person, last year (FY 2005) I signedup/elected for the school board member. This provided me more info and met all wonderful/highly educated teachers. Within the last few years, this school's academic standing (state wide rating)has improved significantly and today is one of the best public elementary school within the vacinity. Higher GATE students, high quality classrooms, high educated teachers (BS, MA, DD, etc.) and very computer oriented classrooms. As a father and an aerospace scientist and a part time evening teacher at local universities, I grade them very high and admire them. Thanks, SAS

Willard is a fantiastic elementary program for the students in Pasadena. Dr. Onoye take the time to know her students and chooses her teacher well. That combination, along with a fabulous GATE and IB Program, instrumental and vocal music program and stellar core academics makes this an amazing school. It is one of the only schools in the district I would recommend for this grade range. My daughter graduated fromt he 5th grade last year with a president's letter and top honors.

Willard is a wonderful school they have just been accepted into the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program, making this kindergarten through fifth-grade campus only the second elementary school in California to receive the distinction. The I.B. program encourages schools to teach their students how to become global citizens by infusing everyday lesson plans with science, social studies, economics and other core concepts. Each grade level at Willard has been given a different continent as part of the program's effort to expose students to the world. First-graders, for example, who are studying about Australia, heard directly from members of the Australian consulate's office. And second-graders at the school recently learned about the economic concept of supply and demand by helping to raise money through the Red Cross for Tsunami victims. Additionally, the school incorporates foreign language study, providing students with weekly Spanish lessons.

My experience with this school has been extremely dissapointing. My child is in kindergarten, but will most likely finish the school year in a private school. I am a public school teacher. I have found the current principal to be abrupt. She can be supportive at times, but it seems to cause her great pain to do so. I feel that she is over-supportive of her staff. I feel that much of what I was told as a prospective parent was 'hype.'
