Las Palmas Elementary School

The teachers and staff are so dedicated to the students. We love the focus on literature, and my children are proud to attend school here.

Las Palmas is a diamond in the rough. The campus is old and not as clean as I would like, but the children, teachers, staff and parents sparkle. The majority of them are are passionate and worldly. My children are learning elementary fundamentals while further expanding their minds by mastering a second language...I see this as a gift that few other schools can offer.

I'll admit Las Palmas school could use some major upgrades but I think it is a great school. I have one child in 5th grade and another in 3rd grade, they are both good students but since they started going to Las Palmas they are great students. When they were at Northmead school, if they were done with their class work before the other kids, their teachers would have them help the other students that were having a little trouble, I have no problem with that but it became obvious to me that the teachers were keeping them busy with the other students instead of looking for more challenging work to give them. My kids are both in the GATE program at Las Palmas School. We are all very happy with our 'eagles nest'.

The principal's innovational leadership inspires dedicated teachers at Las Palmas to teach subject matter thouroughly and creatively. The writing the children are involved in at this school is inspiring. Though PTA does a great job, it needs more parent involvement.

The school has wonderful teachers and staff. The teachers don't seem to have enough supplies that the school or the district should be supplying.The school or district seems very poor. The school needed many up grades around the campus and needs to take care of the asbestos problem.

even though the school is very old and has a ugly paint job it has good service an good food.

When my daughter started 1st grade last year, she couldn't read. Her teacher advised me that she would be reading in a month and she was! English is the only language spoken in our home so if the teacher was able to teach my child as well as Spanish speaking children then I'd say they are doing good. Las Palmas now has a singing program and some wonderful teachers are trying to give more back to the children with extracurricular activities. The PTA heads up some arts & craft nights which are free as well as a Book Faire, Spaghetti dinners and other fun things. It's hard to do things when you have very few parents participating in any activities. So for those parents that what to point fingers, get up and get involved with your childs school!

If youre thinking of moving here for the schools....DONT.... They are in desperate need of help. My children are falling behind, and they used to excel. TOo much emphasis on ESL.
