My child had attended five years of private school in Patterson before attending public school. The principal is outstanding! Because of the principal this school now has clubs that students can join such as the reading, craft, chess, soccer, dance, and cooking club. Unfortunately, the test scores available are from when the school was on the track system (year round) with an enrollment of 875 students. Today Northmead School is a traditional year school (school starts in August and ends in June) with 575 students. This was possible because in August, 2009 a new school opened called Walnut Grove. My child's fifth grade teacher is Ms. Porterfield. My child absoluately loves Ms. Porterfield!!!

I am very happy with Northmead Elementary and the Staff here. I think they have given 100% to my kids. Not only in the standard subjects but in life and leadership. I wish my kids could take the sfaff with them when they move on to the middle school and high school.

My son is in Kindergarten. I really like his teacher. So far this year everything is going well. I wish the academic standards were higher. Children rise to the level you expect from them.

This school has a very supportive principal but I question their ability to supervise safety of the children.

My concern is safety issues and the fact that teachers do not seem to respond to students asking for help or wanting to get assistance regarading another student. The teachers and staff seem to have a turn the other cheek attitude and definitely do not like to help the children resolve student conflict issues. The response seems to be, 'I don't want to hear it...no tattling'. This creates and has created serious concerns regarding safety issues. Otherwise, education seems to be average. Not happy with Superintendant and his style of handling issues...definitely has better things he wants to do.

Overall I am happy with the administration ad faculty of Northmead School. I am worried, however, about the policy of no 'sniching.' My daughter, a 4th grader says that if anyone is ever bothering her she is not allowed to tell, if she does, no action is taken. I know we want our children to learn to resolve problems, but before all of that there has to come a feeling of security. Kids are not going to feel encouraged to solve problems positively if they feel threatened.

The principal makes this school. The staff at the school work together to promote learning and are advocates of the children and their families. The principals' excellent leadership abilities are reflected in her staff. The PTA is strong as well as classroom volunteering by parents. Again, the credit should go to the principal who promotes family and community involvement in education.
