This school has great potential and is heading in the right direction with Thomas Bivens as the new principal.

I have one Ready Springs Graduate and one soon to be graduate. The adademic program and Ready Springs is average to above average as my child was well prepared for High School. Because of the small school size, there is more opportunity to participate in school sports. With the addition of the their new PACE program, the choice of elective classes is far above averge.

Both my children went to Ready Springs for one year when we first moved to the Penn Valley area. While we were very pleased with my daughter's experience in first grade, we were severely disappointed in the caliber and attitude of the 'upper grade' staff. Our son was in 7th grade, in a class of nearly 30 children. More than half were failing or below standards. When I questioned the obvious lack of concern regarding the low achievement of the upper grades, I was told that 'they were tracking' that class. How fortunate for them. As our son was the top student in his class, I was advised that he could become a 'leader'. We transfered both our children to a private school.

From a middle school perspective, these are my opinions: Homework assignments are not evenly distributed among the various classes. Homework that is assigned is not very well directed, and goals of the subject matter are not outlined for the parents to help the students. Some homework seems to focus on things not related to the subject itself. Too much emphasis on non-academic subjects (i.e. enrichment.) Discipline does not seem to be very well enforced, and school bullies are rampant. Cooperation is completely lacking. The principle is a recent addition, so I can't honestly evaluate the performance of that position.

I am no parent, but I am a 1999 graduate student. I left Ready Springs with so many memories not because of the friends I had, but because of my teachers. I looked up to them, they were my role models. I can not forget my two teachers Miss. Ozanich and Mr. Toothman along with all my other teachers. I was always excited to go to school and that must be a first to hear when a student wants to go. Parents usually have to drag their child. All I'm saying is if you enroll your child at this school then you are sure making the right choice. Also the bus drivers are like family. A lot of times I miss being a child now that I am 19 years old.
