As a Dunham parent that has seen one child graduate and has another attending I've seen much positive change over the past few years. Dunham finally has a progressive Principal that is working to not only improve the campus but updating courses to stay abreast if not ahead of other schools. My child has had an amazing experience in Junior High & its due to the Dunham teachers and the extra resources that were made avail. during their years at Dunham. I cannot say enough about the dedication the teachers have towards its students. Talking with other teachers/parents from other schools I'm reminded of just how lucky we are to be at Dunham. All schools are facing difficult times, Dunham has weathered these better than I could ever have anticipated.
My child just finished at Dunham and for a while I was convinced that a change in schools was necessary. In the past three years, the principal has, in my opinion, turned the school around. Teachers and students have been challenged to grow and students are being challenged to not only learn but to be good community members. Like schools all over, Dunham is being challenged by the economic climate but under this wonderful leadership, the school has looked for new solutions to old problems and is finding ways to meet the needs of the students education in a well rounded manner. One parent's review stated that the new math program was bad. I would like it understood that at least a quarter (and it may have been a third) of the sixth grade class was invited to test into advanced Junior High math program!
I have two kids at Dunham. As with any school teacher experience and methods differ. Overall my children have benefitted from the school's curriculum and rural environment. Parents are very involved. The Math program has changed in the past couple of years and from our experience it is for the better. My children love learning. Although they hate homework, (what kid doesnt) they get very excited when they talk about the things they have learned at Dunham. It is a long commute for us but well worth it.
Dunham may seem great to new parent who had worse, but the school has really dived in the last 3 years. The new math curriculum is so horrible that even the parents don't understand it. The staff has changed a lot in the last 3 years and not for the better.
Dunham is wonderful environment for children to grow and learn. Mrs. Wilding is an amazing principal who is very involved with the students. It is the perfect size for kids to flurish. We have moved a lot and Dunham blows our other schools out of the water.
Rating's below are very dated. Pretty location. Distance is consideration. Campus bldg.'s, grounds need work, updating. What need's to be known to any parent considering transfer to Dunham is: Few experienced Teacher's. Quality of each varies. Many student Teacher's & parent's involved in all aspects of clsrm & student. Nice idea, but un-organized & inconsistent & impacts quality, prof. conduct & efficiency. Academic's instr. is below quality compared to same & larger schl.'s Teaching methods are out dated & remain unchallenged by parents. 3 Weeks of test cram prep for STAR! N Extra curricular, is un-reliable & inconsistent avail. Depends entirely on parent interest, & as result, quality varies. NOT appr. choice for intelligent kid's; GATE. Worse for kid's who need x-tra attention & terrible Sp. Ed. assist. Parent social cmnty. dominates enrollment. This outside dynamic, is exclusive & interferes with all qualities, all area's.
As a parent I have been discouraged in the past two-three years however, Ms Wilding has brought back leadership to the school which has been lacking. Her leadership has brought extra curricular activities as well as a re-focus on respect and community involvement. I have also seen great emphasis in continuing to improve the academics at Dunham.
Hi I'm a parent at Dunham School, and i have to say..the teachers are incredibly kind and amazing at teaching! Hope you enjoy dunham!
Duhmam is a public school that acts like a private school. With only 180 kids in the whole school every child knows every student and this is a huge plus. Respect, academics and high parent involvement make this a great school to send your child to.
This is a wonderful small country school. class size is up to 27 with 1or2 aides a lot of parental support and an involved PTA. Academics I would rate 80. Small music program, sports are sponsored by SSU, art docent program great field trips, especially in upper grades.
My daughter has moved on to middle school and thanks to Dunham loves to learn. Despite her learning disability they kept education a fun experience with loving, caring teachers. The conselor was wonderful always keeping us up to date on when it was time for 504 meetings, etc. She was well prepared to middle school and is doing well there. I am happy to now have my son in Kindergarten at Dunham and we are enjoying Mr. Guerny's awesome Soundabet. Half way through the year my son is reading! I highly reccomend this school to anyone.
With 1 grade per class a great 'community' school with good standards. Continual improvement is the goal. Kids in since K and with oldest in 4th haven't had a bad experience yet. Teachers and parents work together to educate in a safe sane environment that encourages respect.
