There are many great teachers at this school, who care a lot about what they dol. The academic programs are solid to excellent all around and the vocational education program is among the strongest in the state. One major caveat: the current principal is VERY weak. His handling of the Wildlife Museum situation has been horrible. It is unfortunate that the former principal still is not there or anyone else for that matter. However, the school broke 800 on the API for the 1st time this year!

PHS has the largest student-operated museum in the entire country and gives students a very unique chance to be involved in the Petaluma High Wildlife and Natural Science Museum.

I've had two children graduate from this school and both were accepted at tier one colleges. They have both done well there. I feel that this school did a very good job of preparing them to continue their education and that is the main focus of secondary education. I also feel that there is a lot of opportunity for students that want to enter the job force directly from high school, if they choose. There are several programs you can become certified in as part of the school -- ie: day care, auto shop, machine shop, CAD drafting. As in all high schools, there are many social difficulties to deal with, but I feel they do as good a job as any doing this.

This school was great for my strictly academically oriented son, and not so great for my daughter who was also interested in the social aspects of school. I'm sure it is no worse than the typical high school, but the B.S. was too much for her and she left for college two years early.

This school is awesome. The teachers are great. They have an excellent music department. The Marching Band went to Washington DC to represent Northern CA in the Memorial Day Parade.
