Next month our daughter will finish 5th grade at this school. She will join her two brothers as having gone K-5 at this incredible school over the past 10 years! From 2004 until now, our kids received such an incredible experience and education. The principal, Mrs. Kim, is awesome, and a treasure to the school. The vast majority of the teachers that my 3 kids had throughout K-5 were great. The parent community is unmatched. Our boys went on to thrive at PHMS, and one is now at College Park HS, and doing great as a freshman. I could not have asked for a better elementary school experience for my 3 children. My wife, who volunteered teaching FAME, Nutcracker, serving on PTA, and endless other activities would probably agree that Strandwood provided a network of friends and a community for our family.

I was so blessed to have one of my sons at this great on wonderful school for 2 years and my other son for 1 year. It was the best school experience they and I have had ever. Ms schuster is the best 2nd grade teacher ever she brought my 2nd grader from almost getting held back in 1st grade to him super excelling during the whole year, and at the end of the year he ended up with 16 A's. Ms Kim has got to be the bestest principle ever. Just love this school so much and wish my boys could have continued to go there

Our child is highly engaged at Strandwood. It is a wonderful school. The parental community is so involved in the school that there are often excessive numbers of parent volunteers for class events and field trips. The PTA does a great job of proving financial support for things like student aides and the FAME program, which is a program in which the children learn about to fine art and classical music. The yearly Nutcracker performance is an invaluable experience for the children--it provides them with vast enrichment, supports confidence-building and is a lot of fun. The principal, Mrs. Kim, has incredible energy and is always seen running around campus. She is highly engaged in her job and it is obvious that she knows what is going on in every single class. She is amazing. I feel fortunate that my child is having such a great experience and is developing a love of learning and reading at Strandwood.

Our principal Mrs. Kim is so in touch with the students. She knows everyone by name, and treats everyone with kindness and respect. The staff and teachers get down to business. They always keep us as parents informed about anything and everything.. the small things my child does that impact others and himself, how I can help him at home so that he can have more confidence in the classroom.. the parents I've come to know make our district a friendly and active community. I feel like my child gets so much attention, and I know the teachers care about him even after they go home for the day.

An involved and talented principal, dedicated and creative teachers, a vast majority of parents that choose to prioritize their children's education and create a welcoming community make this a school of which we are proud and in which we are fully invested.

I love this school. I'm secretly happy that Mrs. Kim couldn't cut it at her previous school in Bay Point. Strandwood is a much better fit for her. She understands our school culture, children and academic goals very much. The teachers are superb and the parent community is wonderful. My son really enjoys his learning experiences here.

This school is based on a suburban lifestyle . I found that the ability to donate supplies/volunteer/participate makes an ENOURMOUS difference in your child's experience. If you volunteer, even a little bit (regularly) then your child will receive the 10 star rated experience. It is blatantly obvious that the teachers communicate with one another and decide your childs future (year to year) based on your level of participation.. Your child WILL DEFINITELY RECEIVE preferential treatment depending on level of parent involvement; an unsaid rule. Parent Participation is encouraged and required if you want your child to receive ALL of the benefits of this school. Luckily my child has no special needs, needs little direction and is very successful on his own; he will succeed anywhere. I saw a HUGE DIFFERENCE when I volunteered in the 2nd grade; moving to 3rd.

This is a fabulous school with a large PTA involvement. It's very 'old school' in practice and policy. They really look at the whole child and form a learning process to the child instead of expecting the child to conform to the way the school teaches.

This is a great school! Lots of parental involvement, great teachers, principal, etc. We have an art consultant and some music. The site is located off busy streets which is a plus for me.

My boys love their school. The teachers and principal are very dedicated and there is a huge amount of parent involvement. There seems to be a real comraderie among the students across grade levels. There are quite a few curriculum relevant field trips throughout the year for all grades and special weekend programs for the fifth grade students. The music program is available for grades 3-5. My only qualm is with physical education which is too limited in time and frequency.

The best principal you could imagine. Mrs. Kim is involved in all activities and knows all of the children by name. This school is one of the best kept secrets in Pleasant Hill. The principal, the compassionate teachers and the highly motivated parent volunteers make this school an absolute dream come true.

So far we have been extremely happy with Strandwood. Our daughter is in her second year there (1st grade) and is thriving. The teachers seem very good to excellent and the PTA involvement is high - lots of extra choices. Overall commitment to education is high and yet its a very warm and caring atmosphere.

Strandwood is a good elementary school, but it really depends on the teacher. Mrs. Kim, the principal is excellent. Mrs. Zawadski is an excellent 1st and 2nd grade teacher. The school has a program now where they loop the classes for 1st and 2nd grade....so the teacher and all the class mates remain the same for 1st and 2nd grade. It's a great program and allows for a great sense of stability for the kids. They have safety bike days in the playground a couple of times a year. The parents are very involved. I think there could be more extracurricular activites.

I really liked this school. I attended it when I was ten, and I got a great education. It's also a very fun school, with some great teachers and activities (such as the annual all-student cast Nutcracker).

This school puts a lot of emphasis to high standard of education. Parents and teachers association is really great. Their combined efforts made Strandwood as one of the distinguised schools in California. The Principal is so down to earth. They have this summer school programs to help students to catch up with the education level that they should be in.
