My child went here for 4th and fifth and he is in six now. the 4th grade teacher had practically no interaction with the parents. I would email him, call him and never get any response. I finally had to just show up one day. And just getting through to the front office seemed a bit difficult as well. I would leave messages on their machines and again- no reply. My son's grades were very good but the studies he was involved in were things he did the previous year at his old school. (????) His 5th grade teacher is more responsive but his grades have gone down :(

I work at this school and if I had children they would definitely attend this school. The administrators and all school staff work very hard to deliver a quality school day. The afterschool program is so much more than babysitting it includes literacy, math, p.e, anti drug, and interpersonal curriculum.

Alta Vista is a diamond in the rough. The teachers and staff are a great group of dedicated proffesionals. Many of the mcould be teaching elsewhere making much more money, but they choose to stay because they care. Funding is an issue for all schools at this time, not just AV. Regardless of that, they seem to do the best with what little they have. I am really disapointed, however at the complete lack of parent involvement. I only see two or three parents really get involved. If more parents were to help out, the school could really do so much more for their students.

Alta Vista School is in the process of doing a complete revision of academic programs. Main goal is to mainstream all students into regular classrooms (including second language learners and special education students). This will give every student the opportunity to become active in school activities despite any learning disabilities. There are extracurricular activities for girls and boys. Every sport is an equal opportunity for boys and girls (wrestling included). After school programs allow students to stay on campus until 5 or 5:30. A child who is enrolled in the after school program must be picked up by a designated adult. Unfortunately, parent involvement is very low. This is due the fact that most parents having busy work schedules.

Parents requests and opinions are ignored unless they are the same as managements. There are a few excellent teachers who stay for the children. When asked about extracuricular activities for students management claims there are no funds. Demography puts this school in a position to recieve grants and other help they don't appear to be tapping into. Has alot of potential, but is mostly wasted. Sports for boys only. Has a gov. funded after school babtsitting and free lunches.

I myself attended this school from kindergarten to the 8th grade. I feel I had really good teachers who helped me when I needed them. Even though we live outside of there district, My daughter attends this school and is very happy there and is getting a good education. It helps when you have teachers who listen and take the time to help you.
