This school is just okay. The good -- They have a great student-led closed-circuit TV stream every morning, which is excellent for involved students. Mr. Sclar is an awesome teacher who is very caring and involved in kids' lives. The not-so-good -- Counselors are a joke. The assistant principal and principal are, despite a great deal of public "face time," unapproachable. This is a public school though, so expectations should be aligned with that in mind. If you don't expect much, you won't be disappointed.

Great school...teachers are the best, great sports programs, great in class environment. If i went to a jr. High like this I would never want to leave!
i go to opms it so fun and cool, the teachers really care and all the staff are nice and cool!
This school was ok. I found that the principal. Mrs. Solis at the time was anoying and could talk forever. There were some good teachers though such as Mr. Sclar (request him) and the librarians were awsome. other than that the rest of the school needed work, especially the PE program
I went to OPMS for 7th and 8th grade and I love it. It was the best two years of my life. The teachers were great. I learned so much there and am now doing great in high school. The councilors there really care about the students and all of the staff is very nice. OPMS is a safe and caring environment.
some teachers dont explain well my daughter and i are very upset with some of the teaching styles
My stepchild came to this school from a out of county 'fancy smancy' yuppie environment school. There he had trouble with academics, trouble with social issues, the 'no tolerance policy' was overlooked, and the biggest problem was mini vans and BMW'S clogging up the student pic up line. The first week my stepchild started OPMS he informed me that he felt these teachers actually cared. He will now be entering into Ramona High w/ a braggable grade point average, a will to learn and go to school each morning, a feeling of safety from the community, sports to keep him motivated/busy and help when it's needed. The staff also is quick to inform of any worries about a child and include parents in the resolution. The staff is always smiling and friendly. It's not a new school, but it's got heart. Thank God for OPMS.
As the parent of a freshman who attended Olive Peirce Middle School and the concerned parent of a current student, I feel I should in good conscience give a review. OPMS has a wonderful mission statement, their attention to behavior and social issues is good, however I find their math department to be lacking. Their graphic arts department seems to be more interested in producing copies that original works and grades accordingly. Their computer staff seems to be top notch and their athletic, social science, science, english departments have been describe by my son as a blast. The teachers really try to incorporate real life experience in the class room. Kudos! The after school program provides tutoring by qualified teachers as well as interscholastic competitive sports. Sadly however, without the after school program my son may never have learned Algebra. Perhaps academics should be the school focus not social issues.
Great office staff and counselors!
