I want to add a little more about Peter J. Shields. When we talk about what to look a school for your kids, PJS shows good signs. Displinary, the care, and the environment are signs you can find at this school. There have been some bullyings at recess. However, my son dind't complain much. He seemed to deal with it.
Since the merge with Riverview this school has gone downhill. My child was at this school since kindergarten and we were happy until a couple years ago. I don't think this school is able to handle double the capacity of students. The teachers truly care about the students and the principal is great, however, there has been little done about bullying issues and there is a lack of one on one assistance with the students. This year was so bad that we decided to move our child in the last year of elementary school. We just had to let go of the friendships built over the last 5 years and move on, which is really sad. The bad outweighed the good. There was a "no talking at lunch" rule implemented this year which is crazy and other parents I have spoke to say they have never experienced something like this in their elementary schools. Your child WILL receive detention for talking in the lunch room...I really hope enough parents have complained about this new rule to have things changed. Please do your research before enrolling your child here.
After we lost Mrs.Cunningham years ago this school has gone downhill. I am surprised about how high my childs grades have gone up since we switched schools
Correction: That was supposed to have read ..NONE of the teachers smiled much, made eye contact or seemed very happy.
My decision to enroll both of my daughter's into PJS was the best one I could have made!!! This is their 3rd year attending PJS and each year I am even more pleased than the last! There is very little to no bullying going on at this school, the teachers don't seem stressed at all, they're all very nice and great with the kids, the parent's really do get involved by helping out and all of my daughters' assignments/grades/lunch $ account/ school news is updated regularly on the website. I always know whats going on and I know that my girls are safe!
Both of my boys started PJS IN 2010 and are doing very well. My Son kindergarten teacher Mrs. Cain is very structuerd and knowledgable. l am very pleased.
This school is great my son came to this school in sacond grade and he learnd alot, this school is the best.
My daughter has just completed her kindergarten year with Mrs. Benesch and Mrs. Salazar at PJS. I am so pleased with education she received from these fabulous teachers. I am confident that she will do just as well in 1st grade and in her remaining years at Shields. I have also gotten to know the staff, and other teachers and am please with their care and concern for the students. I would highly recommend PJS.
I had a wonderful experience in the 2005-2006 school yr. The teachers seem to really care and give the children attention needed. It is not over crowded, so the children get individual attention.
PJS is a small school and has proven itself to be outstanding in all categories so far. The teaching staff is well qualified, innovative and personally involved in entire teaching process. Weekly communication between the teachers and parents has been excellent. We are generally pleased with the academic program and methods taught. The children have a weekly art class where they are learning all forms of expression, medium, styles and format. There is a music program available to for the 3rd through 5th grades. The PTA has dedicated volunteers and monthly activities involving the entire school. My son is currently in the 2nd grade and has been at PJS since Kindergarten - We just love the feel of this school. It would be very difficult to change schools, even if the program offered at another school was an all GATE program.
My daughter is in Kindergarten, and this school is one of the top notch schools here in Rancho. My grandson goes to another and I feel that school needs some improvement. Teachers at this school along with the Principal are very kid orientated. I give Peter J. Shields a A+ for all around good school. My daughter loves her new school, and I wouldn't choose another. Thank you to her two teachers for helping her and making her a smarter and more caring and responsible child. It helps when your teachers like to teach, and these ladies do.Parent teacher involvement is a MUST at all schools. This one goes beyond all expectations.Thank you Mrs.Benesch and Mrs.Salazar, your Great!
