I am currently a Senior having attended all four years at Los Osos. I love it! It is by far the best high school around. I never feel unsafe. (Ive maybe seen 3 fights the whole time I've been there) The counselors and teachers actually care about me and my future after high school. (College is a frequent discussion) We currently hold the highest API score for San Bernardino County and we are darn proud of it. Some parents accuse us of being 'snobby' and 'cliquish.' Yes, we are the 'new school' but we are some of the nicest students who happened to get lucky with a great school. There is a small percentage of students that are extremely wealthy. That does not, however, characterize the rest of the student population as 'materialistic.' Los Osos provides the best possible opportunities for your child to succeed. I highly recommend LOHS.

School is great for academics, best in district. However for the students, socially, it is very 'cliquish' as a previous review had stated. The mere area that the school had boundaries for tend to be wealthier families, therefore wealthier, more superficial and materialistic kids. But also better academics. So, the school = good academics, but gives off a small little town feel; definitely does not prepare you for large college campuses and campus life. former student of 08

Los Osos continues a very strong tradition of Academic and Athletic excellence unmatch in the area. Los Osos was recognized recently as one of the finest High School in the United States. Children are really pushed academically but they also provide all the tools kids need to succeed. My children were very fortunate to attend Los Osos.

After coming from the San Bernardino School District I can tell you that Los Osos is like being in a private school with superior educators and enforcers of rules. Parents really do care about their children's education here as well as the staff. I have never experienced such connections with the counselors and teachers to insure the success of my children in college. My daughter's counselor met with me 3 times her Senior year to make sure we were all on the same page for her goals for college. I couldn't believe that they cared like I did. My last district, the counselor s are dealing with so many disciplinary problems that the good students get lost in the shuffle and you really have to stay on top of your children s education goals. LosOsos has been a huge blessing for my family! I call this a public school of success!

I have two students in Los Osos High School and am extremely pleased with this school. The teachers are very approachable and are always there for the students. They take the extra time for any one student that needs it. The school grounds are amazingly clean and both our children love their school, their teachers, their sports and really have pride when they tell people where they go to school. We are very blessed that our children are students in this school and very excited to know that our younger two children will be students there soon as well. Academically, our children are getting the best education that is certainly getting them ready for their college years.

I've been going to Los Osos for four years, and am graduating in June. I am so blessed to have been able to attend such an amazing school. I believe that it has helped me to acheive much throughout my high school career. I am so grateful for the wonderful teachers and staff at Los Osos that genuinelly care about the students, without them, our school would not be as amazing as it is!

I feel so priveledged to have my children attending Los Osos! I can honestly say that a majority of the teachers here really do care about the success of their students. Although the academics can be demanding at times, there are always resources available to get the assistance needed. Mr. Mitchell the Vice Principal really supports all of the activities and clubs and is very approachable for the students to come to. No matter what the students interest, there is a spot for them at this school or they welcome the opportunity to start something new. They certainly seem to create an environment of tolerance and the school has a small town feel for a very large school. When they throw a tailgate party everyone shows up! My only complaint is the parking is inadequate, but show me a school in California that doesn't have this problem.

Entering year two at Los Osos and I can truthfully say I am not impressed. The teacher's could care less if the kids pass or fail. They give so much homework until your weekend's are spent at home so that your kid can complete the unbelievably heavy assignments. This school is very cliquish.

The only word I can describe Los Osos with is-wonderful! This coming August I am going to be a Senior at Los Osos High. The past three years have passed by so fast and with complete satisfaction. There are many different clubs and sports to join and tons of different classes to choose from! This year, our school was evaluated by WASC, and they gave us a 6 year accreditation! We have received many 'Best in the West' awards which makes everyone who steps foot in Los Osos think of the school with very high standards. The Principal couldn't be better, and the counselors make sure the students are set for their future by the time they are ready to graduate. I would highly recommend this school even to those who live on the other side of the globe! Amazing school which welcomes new students with open arms.

As a student at LOHS I love it. In academics, I have a lot of options for regular, honors, AP and elective classes. In athletics, I also have a lot of options. LOHS has the best football program, back to back league champs and CIF playoffs. It also has great track, swim, waterpolo, tennis, softball, baseball, volleyball, basketball, and golf programs. There are a wide array of clubs, which can meet any interest. We have the best API scores in the district and county. LOHS is like a large family.

My son's class was the first to graduate after attending all four years. This is an outstanding High School. The teachers came from so many varied backgrounds. One was an Attorney, Another a Pharmacist. Teaching both academically and applied knowledge. Music Programs, both instrumental and voice, Football, Track, Color Guard and Drama are among the best in the County. If ever a problem, Security and Police nipped it in the bud. Wonderfully Modern physical campus. Travel clubs is great, too!

About the tests

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

The different student groups are identified by the California Department of Education; if there are fewer than 10 students in a particular group in a school, the state doesn't report data for that group.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 California used the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) to test high school students' skills in English language arts and mathematics. The results for grade 10 students taking the test for the first time are displayed on GreatSchools profiles. The CAHSEE is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined by the state of California. Students must pass all parts of the CAHSEE in order to graduate from high school. If they do not pass it the first time, students have multiple opportunities to retake the test. The goal is for all students to pass both sections of the test.
