U Prep is a great school with a wonderful staff. Clearly these educators believe in the kids' ability to rise to the challenge of an education on par with that in better schools in major metropolitan areas. As a result, most are meeting the challenge and will be prepared to compete confidently, and succeed outside of Redding. Furthermore, the students have sports, music and clubs available to them. We are very happy with U Prep.
It's a wonderful school. Academically challenging, yet encourages social interaction in a variety of venues, dances, sports, performances, etc.
this school gives each student an opportunity to be part of the school either through sports, clubs, or special events, whereas larger schools leave so many "lost" in the numbers. the support system of the staff is great, doesn't matter if you are that members student or not, they are still available to help either the student that conects with them or the parent that is most compfortable with them. The academics are priority one, but the sports programs are getting stronger every year and is a great incentive for many of the students that need alittle "mind" break. The Mandrin class is exceptional, and it's refreshing to have such a personally involved teacher that loves thier subject matter and passes that on to his students. More hands on in science (labs) and history making the subjects more exciting would be great, but the math and english department seem to be very strong. all in all this has been a great experience and choice made for this family. grandparent of four year student.
Great school. Rigorous curriculum that challenges kids. Nurturing students and parental communication needs some improvement.
I agree the school has a strong academic base but if your child is in need of help there is none available. I have had meetings with the school and was told this is an academic based school and maybe your child should leave and go to a K-8th grade school. After 6th grade teachers do not put assignments in aeries, communication is poor.
My child attended this school from 6th- 7th grade. The information being taught is wonderful. The way it is taught not as impressive. They use half sheets of graph paper. Then shrink down math problems to a tiny print. Students are to use these unreadable forms math. The 6th grade math teacher makes it well known. He will gladly accept bribes in the form of Starbucks for late work. The prep-latin course is unable to afford books. So your child will be required to handwrite vocab. words and definitions. So if there are any errors between the board and what they copy down. That is what they study all week. Some of the teachers at this school are great. Many of them are almost unreachable. You will end up emailing and calling many times before you get anywhere. We had to copy all finished work. Due to continuous input error.
It a fantastic school, with a strong academic base. No as sports crazed as most other local schools.
My grandchildren are receiving a superb education from this school. Teachers, administrators, studies are all far above average, They more than deserve to be rewarded. They should be the mold for more CA schools.
Why do they waste all the money to play football. This is a small school with the emphasize on academics. Save the money and have 10 smaller and more successful athletic teams.
Okay. So, so. Not much different than most schools. Good, not so good.
u-prep is great!! i love hothey have chinese because we learn to write read and say!! and all the teachers are great so is the principal!! u-prep is just the best school in the world
The school succeeds more because of the students and parents. The quality of instruction is slightly above average. U-Prep has exceptional, average and below average teachers. It is easy to see success and high scores when you already are starting with the sharpest kids and the most involved parents. For being a charter school that emphasizes higher education, the offering of classes do prepare students for a quality college. However, University Prep does not prepare nor offer enough for the student who seeks the 'best university.' Ex. Ivy League The beauty of a charter school is that they have a more freedom and autonomy to be creative and nontraditional. However, administration continues to dictate and run the school like any other public high school. Three and a half stars is a more accurate rating.
My son loves this school. The teachers are the cream of the crop, and so their students have become the best as well. Their test scores are through the roof! And more important, the students are taught to THINK.
U-Prep is a wonderful school. I am impressed with the curriculum and all the activities that U-Prep offers. It is great to finally find a school that understands what a parent wants and a child needs. The classes are advanced, the discipline techniques right on track, just a great place to learn!
U-Prep has been the best thing for my teenager. The school is currently 6th-11th, and will add 12th grade next year. adding a grade each year since they opened expanding with the students. They stress AP classes and started taking the students on tours of universities their freshman year. Practice tests for college entrance start in sophmore year. By senior year these kids have not only the knowledge but more importantly the self confidence to get into the college of their choice. Most importantly they provide a well rounded curriculum with strong science, math, and language without limiting the arts or sports. They have seminars for parents on a variety of subjects. The one I attended on how to prepare now for college was insightful. UPrep manages to maintain high hopes for each student in a low stress, non stuffy environment thanks to the integrity of the staff.
This is the best schools that I have ever been to! All the teachers and the principal are always looking out for every single one of their kids. It is a friendly and carful invorment. This is one of those few schools that just blows all the others away.
