INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

This is our first year at Roy Cloud and my son and I are so happy. Truly a safe, neighborhood school with a progressive "charter school" feel. PTO is extremely organized and very effective; parents are always ready and willing to help out (cheerfully too!) The children have access to the latest technology and the teachers are superb. I sound like a cheerleader, I know, but we are very blessed to be a part of this school.

There is an endless supply of parent volunteers for projects, classroom activities, school events, and general support of the teachers to lighten their load. Parents often share their expertise to enrich the lives of all the students in the classroom and help them become more well-rounded as they move on to high school and beyond. We are a flexible, committed group always trying new things to enhance our student body character as well as the health and wellness of our students, teachers and parents through walking to school programs, physical education, and health of our entire school 'family' through group generated fitness, education, and encouragement.

Roy Cloud prepared my son well for transitioning to high school. As a freshman, he is taking all advanced placement classes including Sophomore level math. I am confident that my 5th and kindergartener will achieve a strong academic basis as well with Roy Cloud as their school.

I'm pleased to have the opportunity to have my children at Roy Cloud School. This is our 4th year enjoying the wonderful environment, great professor, the staff in general. However, what is most impressive for us it's the community (parents) always involved with every activity, always willing to participate by getti g involve at any small opportunity. This is very important for the alumnus. Parents support makes them feel more secure to achieve their goal. The school staff & parent have work hard to maintain the teaching strategies up date to the 21th century in technology to help students to thrive & success. This is my proud school !!!

This is one of the greatest K-8 schools in Redwood City. Located in Emerald Hills, this school lends itself to a positive, nurturing environment. If a single word was used to describe the atmosphere of this school it would have to be COMMUNITY. This school is ripe with enthusiastic and caring teachers and parents. Our students are lucky to have administrators who understand the importance of 21 Century Learning. Technology has been a big emphasis over the past several years and we have been lucky to be able to provide our students in all grades with iPad Labs and Chrome Books. We have a very strong and dedicated PTO who work tirelessly at providing successful and useful fundraisers to enhance enrichment at this school. Roy Cloud has successfully taught my daughter from K through 8th grade. She now attends the local high school and says that Roy Cloud definitely prepared her well for high school. As I am one who believes there is always room for some improvement, I rarely give 5 of 5 stars to anything, so 4 of 5 just means that there is room for growth, as there should be. We should always keep raising the bar and striving for better. Overall- GREAT SCHOOL!

Both my boys have attended roy cloud for many years after transferring from another school and I have never been happier than making that choice. Roy cloud is an exceptional school with a lot of teacher and parent involvement. Its truly a great school to have your child in. Very safe, friendly and trust worthy...

We are new to Roy Cloud and so far we have been very impressed with the administration and teachers. Attended the first PTO event and was impressed with the level of professionalism and the huge attendance by school families. I look forward to a wonderful education for my kids.

Great K-8 school with many parents that are very involved Middle school math is very challenging. Select kids are advanced to next grade level and then take high school level math with Dr Bitner.

This school is like a parent co-op in a public school setting. Parents work together with teachers to individualize and understand a child's needs. Administration and staff are in constant communication with you about your child's progress. This is an incredible community of parents, teachers, and staff who strive for high academic and engaging curriculum.

Four stars for the elementary school and two for the middle school, and thus my overall of three stars. This is not a good school for kids with learning disabilities. The school is stuck in the mode of needing to keep up with test scores and state curriculum mandates, so there is not a lot of room for any sort of individualized learning. Unfortunately, I suppose that is true of many schools in this state. That being said, all is mostly good until you get to the middle school, where the kids are not provided with any sort of interesting or new curiculum, nor given much direction on the subjects that are being taught, yet are held to rigid standards without being given much guidance on how to attain them.

My children love learning and as a result they are doing well in school. The teachers and the administrators are excellent and responsive to our needs. Roy Cloud includes parent volunteers consistently. Most impressive is that their test scores rival that of neighboring Northstar which requires high test scores for admission. Roy Cloud educates all-comers to nearly the same standard. If you want to know your children's friends, be included in the education process and feel a part of a wonderful community, Roy Cloud is the school for you!

This school started with a great foundation and has only dramatically improved since Greg Land became the new principal bringing effective differentiation in math and reading, which has led to a great math program. This had led more parents to want to keep their kids at R. Cloud instead of sending to N. Star which does not have the advanced math approach.

Roy Cloud has a wonderful group of parents and teacher who work together for the kids. The PTA has been working hard to subsidize programs for the kids that would have been eliminated by the State budget cuts. The school grounds are lovely, every child at Roy Cloud can feel proud to say 'that's my school!'

My daughter transferred there for 4th grade and has been really happy from day 1! The teachers and the principal really care about our kids! My daughter has just started 6th grade this year I am very impressed so far with how organized her teachers are. The students are already learning practical life lessons about time management and study skills--in addition to the required academic curriculum--that they will be able to use the rest of their lives. The number of out-of-the-classroom experiences the students are exposed to are amazing (art, music, science, technology, etc)! The parents are very supportive and there is a real feeling of community within the school. I've had so much fun getting to know other families and the teachers. Roy Cloud is a great place to get a solid education and have fun while doing it.

My daughter has attended this school since kindergarten and is now in second grade. Her current and former teachers are all exemplary and have taught her well beyond the basics. We also have a new principal this year who brings some newer, fresher ideas to our school and who plans on instituting further differentiated instruction into the curriculum. Finally, the school is ridding itself of the old, antiquated notion of being ruled by PTA and is going towards having a PTO starting next year. The parents and families at this school work hard to keep it going. The teachers at all levels are, for the most part, very in tune with the students and very supportive of the programs provided both in and out of class. All in all, the school is very strong and will become even stronger.

Wow how the mighty have fallen. I can not even get the pta to respond to my questions, or the staff. State mandated minimum curricular is pathetic. No wonder California is 48th in education policy, and many local families opt for private. Schools like Roy Cloud do nothing to seperate themselves from the basic standard. If the PTA here is so great! Why are so many parents so unimpressed. Test generated scores mean nothing.

My son is in 2nd grade and so far I moderately like it. He used to go to private Challenger-like school so Roy Cloud is a change for the easer life. Academically, do not expect a lot of challange. Socially, great group of children, nice caring families. Art and encreachment classes like computers, geography, some science, all age- appropriate. Great family fun nights, well organized. Overall among public schools, 9 out of 10 score.

I feel the quality of the academic curriculum is above par and in some aspects reflects a private school education. I'm a parent of a fourth grade girl who has attended since mid-Kindergarten. I've gotten to know the principal & staff very well, and am pleased on their concern for the success of their students.

We found this school very disappointing. Despite generally good reviews from other people, we found the academics really deficient for a gifted child. There is not enough racial diversity. The academics is largely in the 'one size fits all' mold--probably due partly weak funding and to state and federal mandates. Parents are voting with their feet and pocket-books. A huge percentage of neighborhood families send their kids to private schools. All this being said, it's otherwise great, with caring teachers, caring parents, and a friendly feel.

Roy Cloud School is a gem within the Redwood City School District. They are an award winning school and is very difficult to get into. Roy Cloud is a magnate school specializing in technology. The teachers are first rate and have an excellent retention record. The school goes from K-8 grade and has the standard summer vacation, versus many of the Redwood City schools who have adopted the year round program.
