Our family likes Roosevelt Elementary! Here's why: Principal Trish Girardi is a strong leader. Her educational and administrative professionalism blended with personal qualities permeate throughout the school in a positive way: the kids, the teachers, staff, the parents everybody's always learning, and the messages are positive and encouraging. We appreciate the professionalism of the teaching, and the safe and welcoming atmosphere of the campus and PTA. The school has a lovely, sunny, staffed library. The quantity and clarity of the communication coming out of the school and the PTA have made a big difference in our ability to support our grandson's progress.
My son has been at Roosevelt this year and next year his brother will be starting Kindergarten. This year has been such a great experience. His own teacher is excellent adn all the other teachers we have met are so warm and involved. They seem to know every student by name. We too have seen our son thrive in the Project Based Learning (PBL) program. It sure seems like a good way to get the kids interested and to get the info to stick! he comes home telling us about all the thing he has learned and in first grade is plowing through chapter books with joy. the community as a whole is amazing. Parents are ready to volunteer and chaperone whenever they can. And the kids and families are Very down to earth and warm. I'm not sure if Great school has made a note of it yet but Roosevelt got 2 awards this year! The Russel Kent Award for outstanding programs in a school district was awarded to Roosevelt for thier implimentaion of the PBL program. The Kindergarden was also awarded a Kent award as well. WAY TO GO ROOSEVELT! Clifford elementary and Northstar also recieved awards. Redwood city schools are showing thier stuff!
I have three children at Roosevelt and have had the opportunity to see the excellent teachers from 1st to 6th grade. The PBL program is engaging and continues to make the learning environment enriching. I attended open house last night and watched each of my children proudly present the work they had done in their PBL units. I was very impressed by their knowledge but also how excited and proud they were of their work. The community at Roosevelt is warm and welcoming to all students. When I have had a need to express a concern to teachers or the principal they were readily available, and I knew my voice and concerns mattered and were addressed promptly. That expresses a high character that will continue to improve this school as I have already experienced.
Roosevelt is a great school - we were so impressed with the tour that we moved our kids from another public school to attend here. There is a strong leadership commitment from the staff and principal, excellent teachers that seem to enjoy teaching, and a small but very committed group of parent volunteers that help with everything from academics to fundraising. Even with shrinking school budgets and a small PTA fundraising budget, this little school offers a variety of enrichment and activities to the children. The PBL curriculum is similar to project based opportunities at North Star and Orion, two high scoring district schools. Don't just look at test scores - stop in and visit, talk with the teachers and parents, and see for yourself what makes this a special school.
We could not be happier at Roosevelt. Great teachers, principal and communtiy of parents. Our Kindergartener loves going to school each day and is already reading, thanks to the patient and motivating teachers. We highly recommend it!
I have a 2nd graders at Roosevelt. Quite simply, it's a GREAT school. I can't say enough positive things about it. They are on the right track in all regards with strong leadership, quality teachers who are professionals in every respect, and an environmnet where education is the top priority. It's refreshing. As an ex- teacher, I'm failry critical of school policies and curriculum decisions. I am 100% behind all decisions and programs implemented at Roosevelt. Bottome line...the kids come first. I just wish I would've discovered this school earlier in my children's schooling.
We couldn't be happier that we transferred two of our kids from another school in the district last year (2010). We have found Roosevelt to be very well run with a highly talented and motivated teaching staff. Both of our kids feel challenged and are excited by what they are learning. The Project Based Learning approach has provided a much richer experience for the kids with the opportunity to work in teams and present to their class (even our Kinder got to make a presentation!). We would highly recommend checking out Roosevelt. As others have said, don't let the scores scare you away, there's great stuff happening at this school!
I am very happy with my decision in 2009 to enroll my son in Kindergarten at Roosevelt. He is now in second grade and I feel he is in an extremely caring community. Whenever I am on campus, I am impressed with everyone s friendliness and courtesy (from both staff and students alike). I appreciate the fact that he is learning those values in addition to academics. My son has special needs and I have been impressed with the staff s consideration for my son and their initiative in addressing his needs. His teacher, Mrs. Herrera, despite the demands for her attention in class, takes the time to find the best teaching approach for my son.
Our son just passed the third grade entry test to the District's Northstar Academy. I attribute his success to the educational foundation he received at Roosevelt. His three teachers, Mrs. Torres (K), Mrs. "T" (1), and Mrs. McCarthy (2) were caring, excellent instructors. At least TEN other second graders passed the Northstar test. We won't have to miss many future Roosevelt experiences as our daughter is a proud first grade student this upcoming year. On another note, the School Board approved a parents' request to expand Roosevelt from K-5 to K-6. We had tried to expand completely to the 8th grade but the District deferred and is now studying school site use and configuration district wide starting in September. Check back here or with the District to see if Roosevelt will be a K-8 in the future.
Our child just finished Kindergarten and had a great experience. Our teacher was passionate about teaching, always caring, and learned a lot too! Our child can now read basic books, understands basic math and language skills and has also made many friends. We recommend this school absolutely!
We were so excited to hear today that Roosevelt has started the process to expand Roosevelt to a K-8 school! And the teachers that I've talked to are all so excited about the PBL program going school-wide next year. So many great things are happening at this school! Other reviewers have said it, but I'll say it too - take a look at this school, you won't regret it!
my son and I love the school and specially the teachers... I do not have to drag him to get up for school like I did my older son who is now in college. I try my best to volunteer as much as I can but the school needs more than just volunteers. I have recommended the school to a few families and they decided to take their kids and they like it.
I am a proud member of the Roosevelt School community. The collaboration between the staff, the parents and the community makes Roosevelt a great place for children to learn. No doubt about it, I would send my children to Roosevelt school.
Both our kids are loving Roosevelt and we could not be happier that we made the move from Henry Ford to Roosevelt.
Roosevelt is a great school. We are very excited that next year we will be doing PBL school-wide. All of Roosevelt's staff are very dedicated to all students and go the extra mile to ensure that they are receiving the best education possible with so little resources. Roosevelt School is a wonderful place for student learning.
The staff is caring, hardworking, dedicated and collaborative. Beautiful Campus! Students and parents as individuals.
Roosevelt has a beautiful campus near a strip mall & grocery store (services). I feel the staff is excellent and very professional (and I have worked at a few district schools). The parents are VERY supportive and will do anything to help. This is a school I would send my children to.
I can't say enough about this school! I only wish more people in the surrounding neighborhood would take a look and give it a chance. As other people have said, the teachers and principal work together as a team. I am so fortunate to have my child's education in their hands!
Roosevelt's project-based learning program challenges students at all levels. The teachers are wonderful, and committed to doing their best with very minimal resources.
Their project-based learning program has been excellent. My son has really learned a lot and is in fact advanced for his grade level. The teachers are caring and the parents and children at Roosevelt are great.
