Our school is great because it appreciates diversity. I heard there might be an After-school Bible Club coming to our school and know it would be a positive addition to the other wonderful programs now offered. I went to one when I was a child and have some of my fondest memories from them.
This is our 4th year here at CA Ave. We didn't want to go to this school at first but had no choice because our wonderful Milnes School (open since the late 1800's ) was closed down. We definately miss Milnes School, but I have to say that I am very pleased with how my boys are doing at this school. The principal is very friendly and approachable, the teachers are very skilled and great with the kids. We have had Mrs. Bracco, Mrs. Rice, Mrs. Hoffman (a teacher that came from Milnes), Mr. Jeffries (another teacher from Milnes), Mrs. Frymire, Mrs. Piper, Mrs. Withrow and Mrs. Gonzales and they are all wonderful teachers. My children have done very well here and have made a lot of friends too. We do need more parking for parents. But we are very pleased with the school and staff.
Friendly prinicple, fairly adequate teachers, small group runs PTA. Academics is not challenging enough
My nephew just started attending California Avenue Elem. in the 4th grade this year. This is the first school in his life that he has genuinely looked forward to going every day. His grades have improved, not to mention in outlook. I know it has alot to do with the fantastic staff. His Teacher, Mrs. Withrow, has been an exceptional influence and deserves all the credit in the world for her patience and caring. I would highly recommend this school and am very thankful for what it has given to my nephew.
The school principal is very unfriendly to parents. She had the whole front of the school red zoned so there is no parent parking available. She gated off the only parking lot so only the staff members are allowed to park in it. There is a very small loading and unloading zone and if you get out of your car they will have the police write you a ticket and have your car towed. You can't even walk your child to class the first day of school because there is no parking at this school. Cars drive past the school at high rates of speed and run the stop sign all day long. The cops are rarely seen when that is going on. I would not recommend this school at all.
My daughter is a student at this school, my great aunt went there(she is a respiratory therapist), my mother went there(she is a respiratory therapist), I my self went there(I have a degree in law enforcement and emergency medical medicine), my daughter has learned a great deal at this school, they pay attention to what the parents and students have to say.
