To say this school is below average is an understatement. At the first parent teacher conference I ask the typical questions: how is my child doing, how is her behavior, what is your curriculum like? Of course as a parent I know the answers to all this questions except the last. A few short answers latter and after she said our main focus is to prepare the children for the California State Exam I responded. Well but you also teach the fundamentals and not just how to pass a test correct? The teacher kept stumbling over her words and stressed the importance of doing good on this exam . I continue asking question about what teaching method she uses and how she pushes advance children? She quickly stood up and rudely made her way to the door. Through the year I ask for other meeting and she would either decline or not show up at the agreed time. The principal and office staff is no different. They are unhelpful, discourteous and overall unprofessional. If it is within your means to take your child to a different school, I seriously recommend it. I did about half way through the school year and my 2nd graded was seriously behind the rest of her new class.
I am so disappointed with this school. My wife and I will be looking around for a school that can challenge my academically advanced child. I was led to believe that this school had a plan for working with the advanced student but as it turns out they just give him busy work.
The administration is there for the kids. People are working together to take our students the extra distance in education. The teachers always go above and beyond what is required!
Wonderful teachers and the community vibe is everything you could hope for!!
Pachappa school is great! My kids have really excelled with the excellent teachers.
small school feel with dedicated teachers and a wonderful learning environment
My daughter just left this school after being here for 5 years ( since 1st grade).I could never have found a school I liked better, or that kept my daughter so happy. The families are great, the kids are great, and the faculty support is great. My daughter came down with type 1 diabetes in her third year, and the nurses and office faculty are extremely supportive. The teachers care, and they offer great activities like : lunch on the lawn ( once a month your family can come to lunch with your kid), santas workshop ( at christmas everyone learns how to make a gift after school hours ), and special invites for special teachers / speakers from various schools/organizations to visit on a subject ( seismologist / fine arts history). Each grade creates one special performance a year on something different ( play, musical etc.). Superb!
Pachappa is a great school, their academic programs are good. They have excellent parent involvement, offering lunch on the lawn the last monday of the month where you can enjoy lunch with you child. There is also a sprit store and a Santa's workshop for the kids to made presents for their parents. The teachers are definitely worth bragging about. My son had had one excellent teacher after another. Mr. Gomez and Mrs. Monte have been my favorite. They took time to see and understand that every child is different and learns differently. I have to say that the teachers really care. There are no after school activities.
This is my childs first year of school and he is the first of my kids to be in school. I used to go to pachappa elementry school myself when I was younger. I was disapointed in the extra curicular activitys for family and school spirit. When we had family night maybe 2 dozen people showed up out of the whole school. I feel we need to pull together more as a school to show that we care about school spirit and family awarness. Very dissapointing. Makes me think about not returning for future events. I hope this changes. I think PTA and parents of this school should pull together and think harder on how we can make things more fun for familys and the students. family is important and no better school should show it that Pachappa Elementary School.
Our son attended Pachappa from k-4th grade. Overall, we have had a pretty good experience. He started having some academic difficulty in 2nd grade but we plugged along, giving him every opportunity to get on the right path. We met with the teacher and decided to put him in a special program that they provide to help students like him improve reading and writing skills. He began meeting with a special teacher and 2 or 3 other students for 45 minutes per day. We realized mid-way through the 3rd grade that he was still really struggling and decided it would be best to have him repeat the 3rd grade. He is now in 4th and doing much better. We believe that the persistance and determination of the teachers have helped him tremendously. Not one time did they consider giving up on him. Everyone there is wonderful.
The teaching staff is on the whole great. My daughter loves attending school and has learned how to read in Kindergarten. The math is lacking in complexity -- she's a little bored with that subject. The class sizes are right at 20 for most of the K classes and they push the limits in 1st.
I have a student at this school, and I have to say I am really impressed with the quality of student care here, the teachers are very involved with their students and in helping them to succeed. I am currently doing my student observation in this school and I have found it to be a wonderful experience, I see the dedication you all have for the students. I am very glad I made the decision to put my son in Pachappa, I just wish I would have done it sooner so he doesn't struggle so much to get at the right grade level. I also want to say that the afterschool language arts program has helped my son who is in the 5th grade now, bring himself up to that level of reading from the 3rd grade level. I think the most important thing is that my son loves going to school now since attending Pachappa, this alone is progress and will help him to become a well educated individual, Thank you very much for all your work and dedication.
