I have been attending La Sierra Academy since Kindergarten and I am currently a senior here. This school has done nothing but amazed me throughout the years I have been here. I have strived above and beyond academically and spiritually. I love the programs this school offers although it lacks some sports such as; football, water polo, and wrestling. However I will still give my school 5 stars for everything else they do offer. I would highly suggest this school for anyone looking for a school that will challenge them and help them succeed. It is a small school so you don't have to worry about being left at the end of the line for help and that's another huge plus to this school as opposed to Loma Linda Academy and other public schools. Overall this school has gone above and beyond my expectations and I think anyone willing to put in the work will also enjoy this school and the future they will receive from it as much as I do.

Our son is now a senior at LSA and has been attending since 2nd grade. We have already received over 7 college admission offers. Teachers are challenging, professional, caring and knowledgable. The entire staff is great and especially the business office. He has made great friendships with quality young adults with good morals. We are pleased with his grades, test scores and school support!

I love this school because they care about their students academically, physically, spritually and emotionally. They took all safety measures to make sure our kids are secure. The staff, teachers and their assistance are very very hard workers. The kids learn in a truely fun and loving environment. Whether the child is strong and need little help or the child is shy or has any type of problem all thrive and do their best.

My two girls have enjoyed their experience at La Sierra Academy. Both started in elementary and had teachers who cared deeply for their academic development. The oldest recently received a large scholarship to a university because of her achievements at LSA. Because of her solid educational experience in the elementary she soared once she entered junior high and high school. The youngest is well on her way to duplicate the high acievement of her sister. My wife and I could not be happier for the educational experience we have had at this school.

Although a student comment discusses lack of advising regarding public colleges, it is the Adventist Conference that mandates what colleges may be promoted, not LSA. Secondly, I sent my three children there for the Christian atmosphere and a high school where there aren't 1500 other bodies vying for the attention of teachers. Thirdly, although students may not feel 'challenged', there are outside venues they can participate in to boost their academic portfolio--i.e. college classes at La Sierra University. As for the sports, they have soccer, volleyball, softball, baseball, track, cross country and basketball. Many options for many students. La Sierra Academy was the best choice for my choice for my children. (My husband and I are both in public education.)

If I were a parent, I would be comfortable sending my child to this school for Elementary and maybe Junior High. However, for high school, I would not. I am a high school student at this school currently. The reason for this is LSA does not seize or embrace many of the activities and positive changes it could make as a Christian school. For all the positive sounding things the faculty say, they really do nothing. They just try to regulate the school. They do not do a very good job with college advising. Although they meet the requirements for the UC system, they do not really encourage students to strive for bigger secular school but are biased towards the Adventist universities.

La Sierra Academy is a great school. It is a faith base institution with high academics. The teachers are caring and supportive of their students and focus on each student achieving success. Your child will grow both intellectually and spiritually at this school.

This school provides are great environment for students. Students come from diverse cultures and learn together in Christian environment. The academics become more challenging as the students go from Elementary, Jr, High on. The focus is on the whole student (health, education, music, stewardship, etc). The size of the Elementary school allows them to provide band instruction, PE teachers, a nurse, computer labs, and amazing field trips. Affiliation with the college is helpful for students needing tutoring and mentoring. Great school overall

My kids have attended La Sierra Academy since they were Kindergartners & it has been a positive experience overall. The focus for the elementary grades is developmentally-based, since every child is different. The Jr. High principal has done wonders with the program & the teachers are young, energetic & enthusiastic. The high school administration has been actively improving the curriculum to meet the needs of students especially to challenge those that desire more of an academic experience & to prepare for college. No school is perfect, but if you're looking for a friendly, Christian environment with a diverse student body, I highly recommend this school.

My daughter attended La Sierra Academy for two years (4th through 5th grades). We fell in love with the school s environment and the dedication of its staff members. However, I would have to agree with a couple of the earlier reviews: the school s academic standards are poor. We had transferred from the public school system and were very surprised to see that La Sierra s curriculum was lagging behind that of the public school s (about two years behind!) We finally had to give up and return to the public school system. It took about six months for our daughter to catch-up to the curriculum offered in the public school s 6th grade. Quite a surprise when you consider she ranked at the top of both her 4th and 5th grade classes at La Sierra. It s a shame because in all other areas, La Sierra was truly a wonderful school.

I am a sixth grader at La Sierra, and am disappointed. I've been at this school since I was in kindergarten, and take it from me, a student, that this school is not one you want to send your child to. As for academics, I get easily bored with the poor curriculum. I learned to read when I was three in preschool. Here, kids don't even start reading until 2nd grade! The only reason I haven't transferred is because I can't find a good school.

Student readiness is the key for the lower elementary students to progress. I have found that the longer a student is in the school the higher the student will score on standarized test. In fact the school is well above average on the standardized tests for grades 3 thru 12. Students in the K-3 area are nurtured and guided according to the readiness of the child. The school has high values and the christian environment places values on service and ethical, moral behavior. The school is one of the best kept secrets of the city of Riverside.

For a college-prepatory schoool I was surprised to find out that La Sierra's first graders cannot and are not expected to read. Whereas Kindergarteners in Riverside School District's public school system are expected to read simple sentences before moving on to 1st grade. Academics do not seem to be a priority at this school; rather, play is the priority. While play is certainly important, I was surprised to find out how little the school expects from its students academically, especially when compared to other private institutions in the area and even the public schools. However, the school does offer a nurturing environment to all children. All staff members seem to genuinely care for the welfare of the students. If you're looking for a 'feel-good' environment for your children, La Sierra is certainly the school for you. If, on the other hand, you're concerned with academics, look elsewhere.
