what a great idea....elementary teachers are really great and care a lot...weak admin...and board follows one member...opposite of what the founding fathers ever dreamed of...like I said...great idea...shame, really.

We were concerned to pull our daughter from her highly ranked public school, but immediately were at peace when we saw how amazing the staff and parents are, and how much she soared almost immediately. She's pushed to her fullest potential, and she has learned to strive for greatness on her own, without being pushed to do so.

Wonderful charter school that is free to the public. Focus on classical education, on 10 core values, and on a goal to create "servant leaders". Based on A Thomas Jefferson Education. This school is academically rigorous and has attracted some amazing teachers. The calibre of the scholars is high-- you don't hear swearing or students being disrespectful to staff. This is only the 3rd year of the school, so some aspects are still developing. Parents must commit to at least 40 service hours per school year, but many give much more than that. This is an amazing place to send your kids! My kids love going to school every day!

Ever been jealous of your child's education? Here's the place that induces that feeling. I'm finding myself wanting to read everything along with them. My 6th grader came home tonight and sang "Old McDonald Had a Farm" for us in Latin!!! Then showed her chosen translations. I moved a lot as a child and have been around many school children as well as being a parent and can say I've never seen kids so engaged and happy to learn before. So wish I'd had this kind of education growing up... But wait! I am still growing and here's my chance! Get a hold of A Thomas Jefferson Education by Oliver DeMille and you'll see what we are all about.

JAA is an inspiring school for everyone involved--scholars, teachers, and parents alike! My favorite is the mentoring program, which places professionals and learned individuals from differing professional backgrounds in the classroom to teach something from their field of study. This opens the minds and hearts of the scholars to possibilities and areas of interest they might not have known before. This program, combined with a rigorous Classical academic environment full of very dedicated teachers, makes John Adams shine in our experience. Both my kids love school so much, they were excited when summer ended! :)

We have been very pleased with the school and its faculty. It works on a different idea than most schools by trying to create students who can think how to do something in stead of teaching what to think. This is built on the concepts set forth in the book Thomas Jefferson Education By DeMille. I could recommend this school to any serious learner.

My family has been attending JAA since it first opened it's doors 2 years ago. I have scholars that range from High School to middle school and elementary school. We moved schools due to bullying issues at our previous elementary school and were completely impressed. We initially moved from the Midwest and I was extremely disappointed with the schools in California. JAA and reestablished my faith in public education. This is a wonderful PUBLIC school with a PRIVATE school feel. We are truly happy to have found this treasure. The teachers are amazing. The administration is willing to listen and work with you. The school has a great community feel. I have recommended it to many close friends. Only downside I can see is the lack of the traditional High School Activities, however, being a new school, I am sure that will be established with time.

My 2 children have attended since the doors opened in Fall of 2011 and our whole family is better because of it. The classical, leadership-based model of education not only teaches the scholars the essentials (reading, writing, math, science, etc.), but it also integrates critical core values in everything that is taught. The 10 Core Values (used to be 9) inspire our scholars to be generous, creative, responsible and accountable -- or in other words, train them to be the leaders our world truly needs for the future. In the 2 years we've attended, we have had 4 amazing teachers. I feel like I am on the same team with these teachers and other leaders in the school, and that we are collectively working together to create an outstanding educational environment for these kids.

My kindergartner came home after 2 months of schooling there and had the following conversation with me. Me:"Here are some coins for you, go place them in your bank" S:"Thanks for the chang...; hey wait... that looks like Franklin D. Roosevelt!?!?! And there is Abraham Lincoln; someone shot him if I remember right! Hey that's weird, I have never noticed them before on coins???" She didn't know that because she was taught this is who's on the dime and penny. She recognized the pictures hanging up in the classrooms and from learning about them at school. I'm continually astounded by what she comes home having learned. The learning methods and styles are exactly what I expect from a school. If I did not know better, I would say this is a private school. Hands down best public school in the Sacramento Valley.

John Adams Academy is an amazing school. This charter is based on the Classical Education model, and though out the school is the spirit of The Nine Core Values, which seek to instill true character in our scholars. This school was set up to develop "Servant Leaders", students who will become citizens who give back to our world, who can think critically, who are well read, and understand their responsibility as Americans, in creating a better world for all. I could not love it more.

About the tests


In 2012-2013 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

The different student groups are identified by the California Department of Education; if there are fewer than 10 students in a particular group in a school, the state doesn't report data for that group.
