I placed my review on this website before and it is missing. Parents considering the transitional kindergarten program be warned! Our family had a horrible experience at this school. Our child started the year enthusiastic and well-prepared. At the end of the academic year, our child was severely damaged and insisted 'I can't' whenever presented with any task. Thank God, we went to another local catholic school where our child is excelling! I am an educator, so I have the professional background to decide this is a terrible place to send young children.
St. Francis is a good school with good academics. The teachers are good, and the extra-curricular activities are good too. It is a wonderful school.
I'm an alumus from St. Francis and graduated recently in the past couple of years. The school has a great 5-8 program with the excess amount of homework is well worth it. I'm a junior in high school at a college preparatory. The essays assigned to me in junior high were the most challenging and the teachers help me developed an excellent writing style that I am complemented on frequently by most of my high school teachers. I've gotten excellent grades in almost all of my classes because of this school . The school does have tutoring options, ask the teacher for help after school thats what I did!
I absolutely love this school. It's my daughters second year there and the entire staff and all the activities are kid focused. I couldn't imagine having her enrolled somewhere else.
Highly recommend k-4 and 6-8th grades. The Principle is devoted and professional. Seems to be an issue with certain areas in which parent complaints not taken seriousely or remedied, not sure what this is about. After School Extension Program could use some staff with ideas and energy especially during the inside months when children must stay indoors. No sports programs other than basketball - this will be difficult for kids to catch up in certain sports by high school.
With our child in the transitional kindergarten program (equivalent to pre-school) we have been very happy with St. Francis. There is homework, but it's manageable. The teachers are good and the principal is wonderful. She seems to know every student by name. After a few months of school, we learned that our child has a disability and both the teacher and the principal extended themselves to us and we were able to meet with the school counselor. The fundraising and parent participation are not too bad. We had more fundraisers at our previous daycare. St. Francis is not just a school, but it's a community that we hope to grow with.
Wonderful school. St. Francis has a very diverse student body. The staff is excellent, starting with the Principal who is extremely involved and interactive with students, teachers and parents. St. Francis is not just a center of education but also a community comprised of like-minded parents, faculty and leadership. It is truly a joy and a blessing to be associated with this school and its community!
Great school, great staff, great teacher, awesome principal. I have no problems with the fundraising and parental involvement hours required. It builds community and you know where your efforts and money are going. For those who complains about the amount of homework, parent participation hours, etc... You should approach the same with a positive outlook and attitude. You may realize that its actually enjoyable and you can set a positive example for your child when they see you working and participating on campus.
Homework load is not too bad. It's a good prep for HS and college. Definitely a lot of fund Raisers but it's your choice if you want to financially participate. Hours needed to fulfill are the least parents can do for their children and the staff that prepare our kids for their future. NEGATIVE: After paying tuition for 'better education' teachers are still recommending paying for tutoring outside of school. Instead, they should get a program to get high school students from the sister schools to come help tutor the elementart students.
This is a great school. My son is already in drama, looking forward to a play and then to basketball and he is making friends well. The academics and faculty are terrific..
The academics are excellent. As far as extracurricular activities they are nonexistent. I was hoping for after school drama, foreign language, or art. They do expect a high level of parent involvement especially when it comes to fundraising.
Prior to last year, we came from another Catholic school that had more fundraisers, required more volunteer hours (30 hours) and assigned less homework. St. Francis is a wonderful school. I have never seen a principal more hands-on than the current one. We welcome the extra homework load, afterall school was not meant to be easy. The workload prepares the students for high school and ultimately college. The parents at this school take pride in their school. Negatives--No air conditioning for the hot months, but its not too bad.
'Negatives - No tutoring offered for children who are struggling. Also, children with learning disabilities have no recourse. Excessive amounts of homework for grades 5-8. There are too many fundraisers and parents are required to volunteer 20 hours a year. Positives - This school is great for grades TK-4. It will teach your child how to be structured.
great teachers, yes there is a lot of homework and grades 5 and up are hard but these kids thrive once they get to high school. the new principal is fantastic, the fund raising has been reduced, yes parent participation is required, just as it is at most private schools
St Francis was a great school a few years ago. They have undergone a shift in leadership and have a new principal for 06-07. The new principal seems very involved and is making positive changes. I agree that this school is fantastic for grades k-4. Grades 5 and up are a struggle and if it weren't for our desire to get our child into a local private high school we wouldn't continue to attend. It's not worth the money or the effort. Hopefully the new principal will continue to make positive change and bring about a rejuvenated energy to the school where it has been lacking for too long now.

Positives - This school is great for grades TK-4. It will teach your child how to be structured. Also, the school has an excellent fourth grade teacher.
I've been very pleased with the kindergarten program. Parent involvement is required and in several cases exceeds requirements. The principal is fantastic and is heavily involved. I love the small school atmosphere where all students know each other. Being able to discuss and encourage Christian values is a definite plus.
Highly recommend the 7th and 8th grade teachers, excellent (score 5)! Save your money and enroll for 7th and 8th. Will prepare your child for private highschool entrance exams and area magnet programs.
Safe atmosphere, uniforms, nice to not worry about Christmas trees and that kind of thing. Many different religious denominations attend, does not seem to be a problem. Lots of homework. Not sure if it is any harder academically than public. Way too much fundraising. Requires 20+ hours parent participation. Not enough sports except for after school programs.
