We moved so my children had to go to school here,I DID look forward to them attending this once very great school(and it was prior to 2004) but quickly learned that this school deffinetly WAS NOT what it used to be.This school has some of the worst behaved children I've ever seen in my life!NONE of them have manners, they bully, they insult & alot of them dont even speak addequate english.VERY poor involvement when it comes to parents-I was the only parent visiting my sons classes & attending trips, being there for parties & such. Its become very sad.Its a small school that is extremely overcrowded, not enough aids and not even a full time nurse and NO extra curricular activities.I've heard that Dr.Jett has worked wonders but I havent seen anything that impresses me & Ive been all over Bonnheim almost everyday.I would really like to consider other schools but Tahoe has gone further down the drain than Bonnheim,Mark Twain has never improved since the 90's & Earl Warren has thugs under the age of 10 & who wants THAT around their kids. All the good schools are just ruined. It feels really hopeless & If we arent involved NOW..we should ALL fear for our childrens futures & educations!
I like thank the school for the touting that was get to me son. it help him so much he has reading and writing. he learn so much this year. love the star program for working and doing sports with him. it help me with keeping my son active and off the street that you all !!!!!!!
This school is moving in the right direction! In the past two years, the new principal has set clear expectations for student behavior and worked hard to establish a positive school climate. Bonnheim is not the school it was seven years ago when I first came there.
Dr. Jett has done a lot of improvements to this school. My kids have been going here for the 2 years now. And I would disagree that it's the sole responsibility of the teachers on how one's kids performance in school. My son is only 5 1/2 and he is in 1st grade, yet he can read level 2 books, add, count and loves science. Same way with my 9 year old who has a passion for learning. In short, its the parents responsibilities to teach their kids with their teacher's collaboration.
2nd year at this school. With the new principle I noticed more change and parent involvement. I do agree below that the teachers are overwhelmed and under budget at this school. A teacher's aid would really help and money to just get the basic need(paper/crayons/scissors) would really help out too! But overall, I think with parents support, a child can overcome any environment. There as been a lot of fun activity promoting parents, kids, school involvement, which is great. If they are going this way, I think a great future is ahead at this school.
Dr. Jett the Principal is great! She is really working hard with the teachers and students to get the test scores up, My child scored above average based on the Star Testing. Thanks Dr. Jett
The school has done a BIG change now that they have a new prinipal.rightway u felt the change, she is VERY involve with the child. "she gets to know each one of the student" ,u see more parents being involve in the school and in the P.T.A. and "her staff She trains or show them how it needs to be done in order to get the best out of their students" I have move resently but I will be taking my children there.I have seen the BIG change in a one years time and i am sure its only going to get better
I have visited the first grade class at this school several times. The teacher I worked with was extremely dedicated, organized, and creative. She went out of her way to tutor the children after school, gave special parties and prizes as incentive, and made learning as creative as possible all on her own dime. What this school needs is some money to hire a Teacher's Aid, and a bigger budget for basic supplies. The children are full of joy and promise. Whether or not our public school system will be able to lead these children with such a limited budget and a cookie cutter formula (National Standards) with no regard to the community these teachers are trying to serve is worthy of debate. The teacher I worked with was working very hard to make a difference, and her children are doing well. The school needs a budget for classroom assistance.
No parent participation, uncooperative children, no structure, and safety is poor. The majority of the students are non english speaking which makes it hard socially to interact, as well as the parents not being able to understand the teachers. No extracurricular activities, negative atmosphere. If you are looking for a good school in the neighborhood and care about your child's education as well as being in a positive environment, look at Tahoe Elementary School.
terrible administration. no extracurricular activities. parent involvement poor.
