This in response to the July 8th response... Thank you for proving the point regarding elitism. And please note that nothing was mentioned about social class. Furthermore, you may be of the opinion that ITI is too rudimentary for older students, but the entire program proclaims ITI, including the middle school. It is one of their selling points; thus, for it not to be provided by most of the ms program is important to note. Yes, traditional learning does work for some, again linguistic and auditory learners. Interestingly, education has moved toward the belief in instruction for ALL types of learners, including through college.
In response to the June 16, 2013 post: I don't think it's a terrible thing to transition the ms students from ITI to a more traditional method as this will prepare the students for high school and college. The ITI is a wonderful way for students in elementary grades (eK-6) to learn in terms of grasping concepts and applying these skills in various subjects; however, I believe it's not necessarily a bad thing to move away from ITI as the student becomes older and should learn to compartmentalize, as required beyond elementary/middle school. With regards to the class warfare comment, it would be easy to jump to the conclusion of unequal treatment of the students based on social status because it's low-hanging fruit; however, parental involvement is a serious matter and if those so-called "have not" students are perceived as being treated unfairly, maybe there's a correlation between parent under-involvement and student treatment. No school or district is perfect and there's no such thing as a "one-size-fits-all" education. For most LdV parents, this school provides an opportunity that wouldn't be attained in many of the student's neighboorhood schools.
great school i m glad my daughter goes to it . its always good to see parent on campus
LdV is not only a school, it is a community. The school shines because of its strong focus on the arts and science, truly amazing staff and dedicated parents.
Children with special needs are fully integrated into the programs at LDV
Its a wonderful place for children to learn. Teachers, parents and students are one big family. I have never seen before, the commement from everyone to make a school so great
The program they have for this school is great. I love that they also have sports for the kids. The education they get and the activities are out standing.
LdV has a wonderful community. It isn't just a school, it is a family!
The science and art based learning provides a creative learning environment for my child. Parent participation grows a close community of families working together to grow a healthy school.
It has the best teachers and the best kids. They also have great staff that communicates great.
This school is great because it has a lot of parent participation that help contribute to a positive learning environment as well as great teachers who encourage the kids to do their best and communicate consistently with the parents so that the kids are successful academically. GO LEONARDO DA VINCI!!!!
This is one of the best school in the Sacramento City Unified School District and it offers programs that others schools don't due to high level of parent involvement.
LdV offers a fabulous learning environment for our kids. Not only it's foundation of ITI (Integrated Thematic Instruction), integrating the much needed arts and science with the help of parent volunteers. You've heard that it takes a village to raise a child....we have a wonderful village of families working together to help educate our kids. We were awarded the California Distinguished Schools award last year. It's not only about test scores at our school, it's about honoring the learner as the unique individual they are. Not to mention our incredible Principal, teachers and support staff....they're what makes it all happen!
My daughter has been attending LDV for the last 6 years! We have met life long friends among parents and teachers. Everyone works for the same goal the child. The school has done nothing but enrich our daughters live from all the field trips to working along with parents and teachers that care every day. She is going to leave this school a much better person. I have never seen a school that runs so well.I have enjoyed everyone of my volunteer hours. I myself will miss this great school when she graduates.
LdV is a haven in the California public school system. Because all families select to go there and are enrolled through the lottery, there is high parent participation and motivation to see things work and work well. The teachers for the most part are very experienced, dedicated and multi talented. LdV has managed to weather NCLB and still have some semblance of art, music, history and science in the classroom. Keep in mind however, that the bar is low in CA. Nonetheless, this school turns out some impressive results and it due to both the Integrated learning philosphy, great teachers, and an organized group of parents who devote time to both their kids and the school.
My daughter went to school here last year for kindergarten and loved it immensely. Excellent curriculum, the teacher was always in touch with us about what is going on in class. I only wish I could find a school like LDV where we moved to. My daughter has made life long friends she writes to. We will miss every one at LDV
While LdV purports to offer a broad curriculum, with science and the arts, we did not find it so. The art and science offered in this magnet school is pretty wrote and does not really engage the children. The teachers in the lower grades rush through the art, and the children are often just putting together pieces of an art project prepared by the teacher, just so they can get an end product. We also found the parent body clickish and not that warm. LdV did not deliver on its promise for us.
Best school ever! Strong parent involvement, several extracurriculas activities, and many fiels trips through out the year. They cover every aspect of a child's education, arts, math, science, acting, music, sports and the teachers are excellent.
Fantastic school to develop all aspects of the childrens education, acting, painting, singing, music, art, science - all things are touched on. The school has a group of children raised in households where parents participate in the education of the children.
