Mariemont has been a wonderful school for both of my children. Our family transferred here from another school in the San Juan School District and the difference in the quality of the teachers and the learning environment is dramatic. The PTA does a great job at making up for the lack of funds that every school in the San Juan school district is experiencing.
I am a little surprised by the high rating listed for this school considering my son, entering the 2nd grade for the 2011-2012 school year, will not have music class, no librarian, no reading teacher, and only 50 minutes per week available for computer learning.
My son is in Kindergarden at Mariemont and we are very pleased. This is our first experience with a public school and we are impressed. Although its a public school, it has a private school feel because of the parental involvement, quality of teachers and the high standards the school sets. The only drawback is that it is not as ethnically diverse as I would like. But otherwise, its a great school
Mariemont has been a wonderful school for our children. The teachers are excellent, the coursework is demanding and the class sizes are small. But the best part is that the vast majority of children come from conscientious and caring families who want to contribute to the school and help their children succeed. The afterschool GATE programs (lego, art, etc.) are wonderful, too. We love the school.
This school has high academic standards and good extracurricular programs, such as band. However, it is not a good place for children who are outside the mainstream in any manner. The parents and children are not very accepting or welcoming to children with disabilities.
The teachers, parents, and, of course, the students make Mariemont an outstanding experience. Entering school can be a little unnerving for students and parents alike. Kindergarden at Mariemont sets the tone for the entire elementry school adventure. Students are nurtured and listened to in a small class setting. All are confident at graduation to first grade. From there, a variety of wery interested (and interesting) teachers keep students busy achieveing at an impressive rate. There is always a great deal of parental involvement, and we parents are always welcomed by students and staff. Best points are Kindergarden, 4-6 grade teachers, and an awesome music (band) instructor - one of the best in the state. If you can, experience Mariemont!
