I'm, disappointed on the way they handled, new students, from out of town. They give my child her classes. Then a month later, after she is comfortable, with her classmates, and teacher, they change, her primary class, with a new teacher, which, she isn't happy with, and would like to go back to her orginal class. I aproached the principal,, andand he told me i sound like a broken record , be caece other parents complained. So, i tried, then to find out he did return a couple of students to there orginal class., and lied to me about doing that.
Great school. I am a believer in discipline and consistency. Gavilan View does a great job in keeping up with positive student behavior and motivating students towards academic achievement.
I attended GVMS for 4 years and graduated in 2003. Someone mentioned gangs and violence and that was just a thought from a sheltered/sheltering individual. GVMS offers right of self-expression to their students. Unfortunatley some show it through gang colors and/or drug paraphernalia. I'd hate to say it, but all public schools in the area are going to have this. The detention system is a bit exhuberant, but for those students who are teetering on a neglectful/diligent path it proveds incentives for being a worker. Fights do happen but the staff is ready and takes care of things in a very proffesional way. I felt more prepared than others in high school academically thanks to this school. I trully believe this to be a great school.
My daughter has been a student at GVMS for the past two years. She is an 8th grader this year. We chose this school, as we are on an Interdisctrict Transfer Agreement. I feel, as an educator myself, that GVMS is strong academically as well as in extracurricular activities. The teaching and suppory staff work diligently to ensure the success of each and every student. The school has ample avenues for the students, parents and community to be a part of the students learning experience.I reccommend this school without reservation. I only wish there was a High School for my children as well rounded as this middle school continues to be.
I have taught at gavilan view for 11 years. The administrators and office staff work very hard as do the vast majority of the teachers. A big thrust at the school is to keep lines of communication open with the parents via phone calls and e-mails. Our top focus is may state testing test scores and seeing that each student shows academic growth and improvement annually. We have outstanding vocal and instrumental music classes. We also provide a lot of extracurricular activities to keep students contstuctively involved and out of trouble if they so choose. These include sports, field trips, and clubs. There is a small fee involved for these activities. The district desperately needs another middle school as gavilan view's student population has doubled in size..It's crowded. As for student behavior the school needs more support from the district in this area.
