What I do like about this school is the fact that every teacher, faculty/staff member, etc., strives to instill the Christian teachings and faith in each and every one of the students. I am a proud graduate of SCS and am glad to have gone to this school. But I just only wish that people were more willing to work for or be a part of this school. The number of staff members and students has decreased dramatically during the years of my attendance. As a result, things like extracurricular activities couldn't even be considered because the amount of students wasn't enough. Salinas Christian is truly a great school...just needs more willing students, parents, and staff to hop on along and enjoy the ride.
I love Salinas Christian School. My daughter was able to improve not only in acedemics but in morale and attitude. With the help and guidance of her teachers, she went from a sad and frustrated child to happy and enthusiastic young lady. Public school was a ratrace of politics and unruly children. I am definately sending my children to Salinas Christian School this year. Very Satisfied Mom of five!
I find some of these reviews and comments laughable. Firsti off, if you haven't been to SCS in a couple years none of these reviews are current. Yes, there was a lot of turn-over in staff a coupel years ago: former administration and pastor. How is the administration 'top heavy?' there is only one administrator. SCS is still the only accredited Christian K - 8 school in Salinas, and I hear they have been approved for reacreditation. What about the 4 star rating for 'parent involvement.' I am part of PTF and I have seen maybe 5 parents our of the whole school who participate. Where are you?!?!? Look, is it a perfect school - no. As far as small, private schools it is average. But in Salinas - if you want to go somewhere else you get to pay about the same or more or go to a struggling, public
My child went to Salinas Christian School for 5 years. In the beginning - went well - academics and teaching great. Then teachers started leaving - lots of them - you never knew if the teacher you picked at the end of one year would be there to start school the next. Then the academics started slipping. As the price rose - what you got declined.
This school does not offer music as part of its curriculum. If you want to learn how to play an instrument, you must pay to do so and it is done after school. There's too many students in the classroom (1st and 2nd grade). Check it out for yourself. Rooms are small and students are cramped in there. Ventillation is not very good unless you count opening the doors (or closing them) as part of a ventillation system. Teacher turnover is astronomical. You can't help wonder why the good teachers who had been there a while are all of a sudden moving out of there to move in to other nearby schools to teach. This turnover affects the students. Teachers are wonderful and doing the best they can. The administration is top heavy and somewhat distant to the parents. You can talk to them about your concerns and mostly, nothing happens.
Been a customer of SCS for over two years. I have two children who attend that school. The teachers are wonderful, capable, and talented. This year, however, am feeling somewhat dissappointed. The first grade class has 29 students and the second grade class has 25 students. The teachers do not have enough time to spend with the teacher and for the teacher to truly help the student, esp. the child is having problems. Instead, my children are looked at as if they are the ones who have the problem as opposed to looking at it from all angles to see the 'overall picture' of the child and his/her environment. I am already looking at other private school where the teacher-student ratio isn't so high. SCS will not hire teachers unless a class reaches the magic number 30+ students in order to split the class into two.
The level of parent is very high because SCS charges you extra if you do not meet you 25 hours of volentere work. There are multipule extracurricular activities but often time the price you pay for them verse the quality of the program leaves you wishing they had better teachers/coaches. I do not feel that academicly they are able to keep up with all educitional groups. If your child is average then great, if your child is slow they are left behind, if you child is very smart they are bored.
The academic quality of this school is excellent, it has enriched my child's education to its fullest.
Salinas Christian has to be one of the best schools in our nation. The teachers and staff are absolutely wonderful. Every single teacher at Salinas Christian really cares about their students.
SCS is one of the greatest schools in our country! The faculty and staff are outstanding and each student is important to them. Check out www.salinaschristian.com for more details on this fully accredited school. I highly recommend SCS to any parent who wants the best education for their child in a safe, fun and wholesome environment.
