My son is new to Monte Verde Elementary School this year. We love this school!!!! Ms. Mirt, the principal, has been so helpful and kind since I met her in June 2010. I have seen and experienced first hand that she is a caring individual who cares about the her students, the parents, the staff and of course the faculty. Ms. Mirt is very involved at Monte Verde and often can be seen outside of her office chatting with parents, students and participating in school events such as the walk-a-thon, getting dunked in the dunk tank and attending PTA meetings. She has welcomed our family to Monte Verde and remembers who we are which is great. Ms. Mirt is very proud of her school and exudes school spirit. My son is a first grader in Ms. Meyers class. Thus far, my son is doing great in school and is able to demonstrate what he is learning in class. He receives a good amount of homework each week which reinforces all the concepts he is learning in class. He gets spelling tests every Friday which is great. Monte Verde is a California Distinguished School and plans to retain that title and honor by holding the students to high standards. The veteran parents at Monte Verde are fabulous! They have also been very welcoming and are involved in the PTA and school events. It was great to see many of them at the Walk-A-Thon event, especially the familiar faces from PTA. It is a great feeling to know that Monte Verde parents are also just as invested in the success of the children as Ms. Mirt, the teachers and the staff. We haven't been at Monte Verde very long, but I can honestly say that I am proud to be Monte Verde parent! We are truly blessed to be a part of such a wonderful community. Go Eagles!!!!

Our school just won A Distinguished School award, in an era were we are facing budget cuts our principal saw only the good and entered our school. We have the best PTA.

I have a 3rd grader and she has been at the school since grade K. We love all the activities and parent involvement. Ms Mirt is always available to hear out concerns and is very active in the school day with student to student issues. Its good to know they have a principal they can go to that will get to the bottom of any issues. My daughter LOVES everything about her school including the office staff, lunch staff, janitor, yard duty staff, parent volunteers and whoever else is part of the awesome MV team. All four teachers she has had have all been WONDERFUL and caring to her needs on all levels. They take time to answer all questions I have about my child. Keep up the GREAT WORK MV *I think it is awesome that the parents are so dedicated that the library is ran by VOLUNTEERS!

I have one child at Monte Verde and have been very pleased with the education and experiences she has received so far. The teachers are receptive, encouraging and enthusiastic about what they do. Hats off to Principal Debbie Mirt for her dedication and commitment to Monte Verde - she is supportive, open and seems to know almost every child's name in the school! The surrounding community is great and parent involvement is to be commended. I agree that there are the same parents that seem to be the core group for planning and executing events - as a working parent, I'm glad they're there to provide students with different programs and events. It seems to me that with the earlier comment posted about needing new fundraising ideas and programs w/in the PTA could best be addressed by saying: then get involved with the PTA - actions speak louder than words!

I've been a parent at Monte Verde for several years. I feel my children are receiving an excellent education. The teachers, staff, Principal, and parents all work together to create a nurturing and challenging academic environment for our kids. The PTA members work hard to provide extra funds for the school as well as support for the teachers. Over the years I've seen them provide all playground equipment in the 'big' yard, curtains for the stage, the signboard, audio and visual equipment, a contribution every year towards field trips, P.E. equipment, and digital cameras for each grade. New parents and new ideas are always welcome so please come to a PTA meeting to share your vision with us!

Monte Verde is one of the best schools in the SSFUSD. I believe they have great teachers and a good principal. The only area that needs improvement is the PTA which lacks organization and direction. There is a small group of parents who seem to always do the majority of the event fundraising and coordinating which ends up being the same each year. We need 'fresh' ideas and old/new parents to become involved. Hey, other schools have mandatory parent participation, so why can't parents receiving a free education for their children make an effort to participate in your child's education? I can't seem to understand why you wouldn't want o.

Well, my rate is based on my experienced as a parent with two children currently attending in this school. My two childrens are new in school but they very much like it. The morning assembly is a perfect way to start a good day for parents, teachers and students. It reminds me of my old exclusive private school. The difference is, that I don't have to pay tuition fees for my childrens. My childrens academic, so far, is excellent. Parents, Teachers and Principal involvement are very professional and much better than other school that my childrens attended both private and public school. The school environment is excellent. Safety, is very important for everybody especially for students, staffs and parents. In Monte Verde, safety is not perfect and there is room for improvement but the way the current budget and economics goes, Monte Verde is about 8 on safety compare to others.
