There is not enough emphasis on math and science. I do not like the fact that parents are teaching some of the art, and music courses.
Safe, supportive school best suited for a self-motivated independent learner. Not ideal for children who are easily distracted or have special needs given its smaller size and limited staff resources. Very involved parent community.
There are many things the founders of this Charter school got right. At the heart of this school is a solid charter-based foundation, pationate educators, and very involved parents.
Offers a socially rich academic curriculum supported by a very committed parent/teacher community and creative learners. Ideal environment for a self motivated learner and at the same time not an ideal environment for someone less able to participate effectively in their learning projects or who might benefit from a more disciplined small group environment and/or 1:1 teacher time.
This school received the first charter from the State of California. Project based learning, multi-age classes and a culture of parent volunteerism provide students at this school with a rich learning environment in a state with one of the lowest amounts of money spent per child on public education.
Great school for creative, motivated children with an amazing parent/teacher community! It is a smaller school with resource limitations so agree with the other reviewer that it may not be a great choice for special needs students who require the resources of a larger school or those who want a more structured curriculum. In my opinion, the expectations and independence the children are given fosters creativity and academic achievement.
San Carlos Charter Leanring Center has a very involved group of teachers and parents, which creates an awesome school community. THis is exactly the atmosphere I want my children to grow up in.
SCCLC is the most caring, community-supported learning environment I've ever encountered, and a wonderful place for kids to thrive! We're fortunate to be a part of the community.
Like all public schools it faces funding challenges. But, the school community is close knit, open minded, and very committed to the school's success. Very capable, creative students and staff. Multi-grade classrooms offer flexibility for the individual child based on their abilities. Tremendous opportunities for parent participation by very capable parents.
This is not only a great school, but really a great community composed of Learners (students), Educators (Teachers), Parents and Community members all working and communicating together to provide a comprehensive education to all of the Learners. The school requires parent partipation, mixes 2 grades together (multi-grade) into the same classroom, utilizes e-mail and classroom web pages for effective Educator to Parent communications, creates a somewhat individualized curriculum for each student, utilizes hands-on teaching techniques, stresses fieldtrips and community involvements to provide a well rounded education. I definitely recommend this school if you want to be involved and participate in your childs education.
