I have a son currently enrolled, have had 2 nephews who attended this school. Both of my nephews had terrible experiences because of learning disabilities and they would've graduated 5 and 6 years ago. Instead they were low performers and rather than receive the help and education they deserved they were pushed out. Now my son is experiencing the same. No change means no accident and in fact points to a likely policy. This school is terrible.
No doubt SCHS is a big school, but the athletic programs are great, although many of them cost HUNDREDS of dollars to compete in just to buy uniforms, jerseys, shoes, etc. HAs Japanese, French, and German. Plenty of AP/IB classes and many music programs(band, orchestra, choir, jazz band, marching band, color guard.)90% of the teachers I had, I liked. Because it is a big school it is important to remember what your goals are because it is relatively easy to ditch, and find trouble because this is a large school.
Highly Qualified and Enthusiastic teachers, challenging courses IB program, tops in Athletics and the Arts.
Our experience with the administration has been top-rate. They have been very helpful from the academic side ensuring our son was in the proper classes, etc. The school offers an array of high level AP/IB classes for the brightest students. The teachers are like any other school. Some are fantastic, others play favourites and use their 'power' against students they don't like. This was frustrating but as another parent said it is a principle of life and the students have to learn to cope with the inequalities dealt them. SCHS is a very large school but your student should find a 'niche' for themselves whether it be sport, music, drama, or joining a club (or start one!). Being involved in any aspect helps make the school smaller and more enjoyable. Lots to offer both academically and socially.
Because SCHS is a great school for my children, this school keeps the students intrested in all areas of academics so they can be responsible people in society. thank's SCHS
Good points include teachers who care, quality educational programs, excellent sports programs, excellent auto tech program, and location. School is very large and spread out, allowing students to get away with misbehaving and trauncies. Discipline from administration is lacking. Students know who the easy teachers are and can get by without getting an education, but that's a principle of life. SCHS offers kids everything, but parents have to be involved and vigilent to keep their children focused and out of trouble.
Excellent for motivated students. Excellent for kids with IEP's or GATE identified. The large size means you need to be highly involved with your students education to keep them from falling through the cracks. I am forced to give the school an overall score of average.
School is oversized, but the teachers and staff overcompensate through a multitude of programs that has something for every student. San Clemente High School reflects the community and has a community atmosphere. The downside is that if your child is not one to seek involvement, your child may slip through the cracks due to the large campus.
Under staffed~over sized class rooms~ Children lack guidance~parents really need to be there to guide and prep child for college~would not recommend this school unless your child is a very disciplined.
my daughter is on the SCHS Dance Team and the leadership there over the last four years has been remarkable. My daughter told me, 'without Dance Team, she would have been lost.' I commend Jeane Mcphee and her chorepgrapher Kelly Reed. It is this kind of dedication that builds great citizens for our future.
